- We are very happy to share our latest preprint! 📣 H-NS is a xenogeneic silencer that prevents the costly expression of horizontally acquired genes. In Salmonella, H-NS silences several Pathogenicity Islands (SPIs), including SPI-1, which is essential for host invasion. 🧵⬇️
- SPI-1 genes show stochastic expression, making it challenging to study chromatin structure. To bypass this problem, we used functional genomics on sorted populations expressing SPI-1 or not.
- When SPI-1 is activated, H-NS occupancy is remodeled, creating a new chromatin landscape that, together with HilD, facilitates transcription and the formation of Transcription-Induced Domains (TIDs).
