- www.rollingstone.com/culture/cult... Is this the unavoidable endpoint when knowledge, ego and career converge? This is a chilling article which clearly needs the academic community to find a solution, but we need to rethink how we reward academic endeavour. #NoMorePublishOrPerish
- Would be lovely to get your perspective.
- The most exciting papers of the year! Could these observers provide insights into the potential of immunotherapy in other conditions? 🤔
- This is a really great thread 🧵 about an important study using mixed methodology to understand a subject that rarely gets the attention it deserves. Kudos to the team @ucalgary.bsky.social guided by the brilliant @kerrijohannson.bsky.social
- TETON-2 data looking good! 96ml of FVC ‘saved’ by inhaled treprostinil at 12 months. Devil will be in detail but all very promising.
- youtu.be/zTs3PDEkB2w Interesting story. 1) Brexit actually increased migration. 2) Students r source of UKs immigration‘problem’, likely due to our outstanding universities 3) Cumulative asylum seeker retention builds up 4) A ‘hostile environment’ might work but at what cost & for what impact? 😬
- Pogacar vs Vingegaard? Alcaraz vs Sinner? Tottenham vs Arsenal? Giants vs Dodgers? Nemesis vs motivation?
- I think this is a great idea, might be tricky to operationalise. The current system is breaking if not already broken. Incentivises research fraud. Will prevent people seeing the wood because of all the dodgy trees. #LessIsMore
- This makes me sad (not altogether sure why), but I would like thank #DanielLevy for his hard work over last 25 yrs. The Stadium, European Glory Nights, Great teams, superstar players! 😍 There were some lows I’m sure but I don’t remember those. #COYS
- Phenomenal result! FIRST positive 52 week study of inhaled therapy in #IPF. Benefits were independent of background therapy! 🤩 Along with Nerandomilast this shows importance of cAMP/PDE4 pathways in fibrosis & opens door 4 other therapies targeting these pathways! #FutureLooksBright #CureIPF

- I think there is no clinical need to update the classification, and I just can’t wait for the next update! 🥱
- I’ve just been struck by how structurally (if not functionally) similar broccoli 🥦 is to the lungs 🫁! 😍🤣

- Reposted by Gísli1. Kevin Gross and I just posted a new science-of-science preprint. This one explores the looming peer review crisis. As many of you know, it's becoming significantly more difficult for journal editors to find scholars willing to serve as peer reviewers for submitted manuscripts.

- Great article from @theguardian.com which nicely summarises a real problem. As I’m fond of saying ‘if you are looking for a needle in a haystack, stop adding more hay!’ Thanks for sharing @kerrijohannson.bsky.social @bmj.com

- How many people ask permission from proposed reviewer when they ‘recommend’ a reviewer for submitted publication? Fairly standard when requesting professional reference and might reduced the number of declined reviews from ‘recommended reviewers’? #AnswersOnAPostcard
- NEWSFLASH, any reviewer for BMJOpenRespRes gets a 25% discount on the APC for manuscripts submitted to BMJOpenRespRes within 12 months. There maybe further positive moves in future #SmallSteps. #GettingThere 🙏🙏
- Wow! 🤩 Some really important messages in here! The burden of ILD is higher than thought AND rising. Burden in rural communities higher than cities! 🤔?🌾🚜🐤 Mortality 📉 suggests Dx and Mx improving 🥳 Kudos to @kerrijohannson.bsky.social & team!

- 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
- It’s a practical question not a philosophical one. If the choice is wait many months while AEs try & fail to get reviews or get your manuscript back for resubmission elsewhere which is an authors preference?
- We can’t desk accept because by definition it’s not been peer reviewed. Therefore, the journal would no longer ‘a peer reviewed journal’ which is criterion for most academic promotions, grants etc. In which case people might as ell deposit on their institutional website only.
- Hopefully other journals will up their game soon 🙏Maybe AI will help? @bmj.com
- Agee. Quality not easily measured by IF but should be the driving factor with good & fair service provided to authors. There is a lot of work to be done to reach this standard! 😔 #WillKeepTrying

- It that JIF time of year again and here they are. Some surprising movement which leaves me & I’m sure other wondering a) what does it mean & b) will journals adjust strategy or process as a result! No change at the top: @lancetrespirmed.bsky.social 32.1 However coming in at number 2 🥁🥁
