- Big festival after the march in the small-ish town of Corvallis, Oregon! It ended with a dance party… many people are still on the streets with their signs- 3 hours later!
- @radiolab.bsky.social I loved Soren’s reframing & it happens to provide clarity on something I’ve been trying to articulate: Jane Goodall: “I don’t like to talk about animal rights. I prefer to talk about human responsibilities.” Me: “what are OUR responsibilities to each other? To our community?”🥰
- Ready for today’s march for Democracy! (With a nod to my neighbors to the North in Portland! 🐸🥰)

- This is truly depraved. The goal is to force universities into even more extreme violence against protesters and suppression of free speech. www.ed.gov/about/news/p...

- Reposted by J FriesnerFirings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut. This isn’t about the budget. - I am grateful to funders that support professional development for early career scientists & members of underrepresented groups AND I wish the application process was commensurate with the funding amount. I spent 40+ hours on a proposal that will require 100+ more hours if funded
- AND an additional week of onsite mentoring. The proposal includes zero support for my time and will not advance my career. Research proposals- in comparison- bring in $$$ & support staff, your research, get you publications, & help your merit/promotion (if I was faculty).
- Since I am not faculty (I'm staff)- supporting communities does not advance my career. To attend the meeting & implement the trainee program will also require my own funds to get there. There needs to be better ways to support early career scholars, members of underrepresented groups in science...
- Please share! Nominate your Arabidopsis community colleagues, trainees (or yourself) by January 31! Open to people working with Arabidopsis from all parts of the world. Only nominees that advance to round 2 are required to have a full nomination package submitted: bit.ly/3DtjNEi
