- In 2022, @kristoncapps.bsky.social and i started writing about an HOA in the Dallas suburbs that tried to ban low-income Section 8 renters from its community. While three-quarters of residents were white, nearly 95% of voucher-holders were Black.
- In 2023, Texas passed a law that would make it illegal for any HOA to prevent landlords from renting to Section 8 voucher-holders. But we found that, in the lead-up to the enforcement of the law, several HOAs had such restrictive rental rules on the books www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...
- and now, in 2025, HUD has charged the Texas HOA with housing discrimination, finding that its Section 8 rental ban was designed to keep out Black renters. Among the evidence: scores of racist and threatening social media posts: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
- the Providence HOA isn't the only party HUD charged with discrimination. FirstService Residential Texas, its property manager, was also charged with violating the Fair Housing Act. That company is part of the largest HOA management company in North America: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

- Reposted by Sarah HolderI don't know if the LA fire department is properly funded or not but the claim that the city cut its budget last year — which is circulating widely on the right — is false. As Politico notes, the budget actually INCREASED by $50 million. A portion of the funding was approved in a separate bill.
