- Reposted by Alice SoutheyLast week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. - 'Tis the season for the Salvation Army's We're Not Bigots Anymore PR blitz. Looking at their public facing material, you might start to believe them. So in the festive spirit, have a 2024 SalvationArmy.org article on how trans and gay people are one of Satan's "most insidious and dominating" plots.
- Here's a link to the full article if you'd like to see more of how the Salvation Army talks about queer people when they think only insiders are listening. southernusa.salvationarmy.org/uss/news/com...
- "Jen Gerson interviews Ross Douthat" is the worst sentence ever typed by human hands.
- Starting to consider the possibility that AppleTV produced an entirely different Slow Horses and are streaming it exclusively to me, because I seem to be the only person on Earth who thinks this show is terrible.

- Damn, who could have predicted that the guy who sneered at "identity politics," boosted Tulsi Gabbard, and was happy to go on Rogan would be a big fan of this Nazi too?

- Apropos of something deeply silly: there is nothing on this Earth more obnoxious than deliberately using a word in a way no other human being has ever done and then doing a smug little dance when people judge your words by their plain English meaning.
- It really is unfair for Christianity to keep promising a day where God kidnaps all the worst people you know and then not delivering.
- Philosophers really are the tech bros of the humanities. Once you decide your job is thinking about thinking, it becomes really easy to convince yourself you don't need to learn a single actual fact.
- Launching a new business? Thinking it might be neat to make a lowercase name part of your brand identity? Please spare a thought for the people who will have to wrestle with grammar correction while writing about your company. Then shove your marketing team out the nearest available window.

- The unspoken argument behind "he was taken out of context re: killing gay people," is ultimately not that he *didn't* endorse killing gay people, but that Christians have an absolute right to call the brutal killing of gay people perfectly, divinely just without even the mildest social consequences.
- I usually consider myself pretty desensitized to transphobia, but that Matt Walsh post he quotes genuinely makes me feel nauseous.
- What I'm taking from the last few days is that a lot of journalists are like babies. They don't know words, but pick up on tone. So "Aww, does God's perfect law say to stone gay people to death? Yes it does, yes it does, my little baby journalist" sounds totally civil to them and they coo and clap.

- The replies to this are really something. The one truly unifying feature of American culture across the political spectrum is toxic, brain pickling gun fetishism.

- "Epic Bacon, $12" feels like something out of a particularly low effort SNL sketch about Elon Musk opening a restaurant. The man really is committed to being beyond parody.
- What you all fail to understand is that liberalism is when a trans person isn't a perfect clone of me.
- Shout out to The Necromancer's Tale for being really great in its own right, but also for being great in a very specific way that makes you feel like you're playing the coolest Neverwinter Nights module imaginable. store.steampowered.com/app/1315320/...
- Gadget specifically is probably the first game I remember playing, certainly the first game I was obsessed with, and layed the groundwork for Riven permanently breaking my brain shortly afterward.

- Happy to admit I was extremely wrong about Signalis. Dropped it for being too heavy handed with its references, came back to find it actually pulls of the improbable feat of repeatedly shoving a copy of The King In Yellow in the player's face in a way that's actually cool and emotionally affecting.

- Reposted by Alice SoutheyIt's easy to forget now but we had decades of steady advancement on trans rights. The 2016 bathroom bills invited huge backlash! It was only after the media constructed sports and youth medications as 'debates' that opposition moved from the far right to the polite center.

- Apocalypse World 2e remains one of the absolute best RPGs out there. Incredibly excited to see what they do with a third edition.

- Watching the Netflix Rob Ford documentary. I shouldn't be surprised that nobody who worked to elect and protect Rob Ford has the slightest shame for having helped put an absolute piece of shit in charge of Canada's largest city, but I'll admit I was expecting at least a hint of introspection.

- Reposted by Alice SoutheyWhen I heard the mom of a trans girl say the night her daughter came out to her was the first time she'd ever seen her child happy, I knew it was a story I needed to share. These are the stories the public isn't hearing. An honor to get to report on 3 family's journeys for @teenvogue.com.

- It's truly bizzare how specifically obsessive many journalists have become about displaying this kind of outrage when some colleague is critized by trans people. @virginiahughes.bsky.social hasn't felt inspired to post here in five months, but suddenly it's all hands on deck.

- I try not to be mean to DnD fans, because I genuinely believe a riding tide lifts all boats here, but the replies arguing that dogshit rules that every table rebuilds from scratch are good actually because *checks notes* DnD has been consitently dogshit since it's inception are making it real hard.

- Pope Francis wished for a world without trans people to the same extent and often in the same breath as he wished for a world without colonialism or nuclear weapons. And too many of you are just fundamentally okay with that.

- I am once again reminded that too many people, including people I'd usually think of as genuine allies, just fundamentally don't see even fairly vicious homophobia and transphobia as a moral deal breaker.
- Reposted by Alice Southeyit's important this go as viral as the original story for morale purposes if nothing else. despite the image they project these people are NOT unaccountable. consequences CAN be forced. focused anger and outrage MATTERS.
