T. Williams
Just here for art, tech, cat memes, & some occasional cloud shouting about absolutely nothing of consequence. Head of IT for a zangy boomy ADR studio in SoCal (my missives & musings here are entirely my own).

- For those looking for alternatives to the Crunchyroll store, an eBay vendor called "pop.market" has been great for me, especially w/ Sentai titles. They do an extra 20% off if buying 3 or more titles. Beats the hell out of CR's prices. Sadly they don't carry Discotek. www.ebay.com/str/blowitou...
- If one had Light's book and could only write one name in it, I think a case could be made that the Cheeto wouldn't be the most ideal choice of names to write in it. Just saying.

- Reposted by T. WilliamsUploaded for the first time, here's the AMV I did for an Easter egg on the Noir Volume 7 DVD in 2003. With it being out of print and the company defunct for years, I probably could've put it up before now if I'd thought of it, but a Discord conversation w/ @kireblue.bsky.social reminded me of it.

- Been hearing about a shitload of mailbox break-ins lately. I suspect criminals are trying to intercept W-2s (often mailed out around this time of year) so that they can do identity theft shenanigans and pilfer tax refunds.

- This Politico article has an embed of an absurd AI video portraying Eppy saving CK from the bullet and then doing a conga line to an EDM song about fighting for the gospel. WHAT. I cannot confirm that gut-busting levels of guffaws erupted from my vicinity for several minutes on end after viewing.

- Interested in filing an FCC complaint over CR's sloppy captions? Here's where to begin: consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us/req...
- I believe a strong case could be made that CR's egregiously sloppy captions on so many shows violate FCC regulation 47 C.F.R. § 79.1(j)(2), (3), and (k), per the CVAA act of 2010, which applies to streaming. It may be time for people to start bombarding the FCC Consumer Complaint Form.

- Throughout 2025 I was feeling burnt out in general, & I've found that some things once central to my life interests me little anymore. So I'm making my 2026 a year of fresh starts & renewal, and that fills me with optimism. (Nothing drastic, just exploring new communities & abandoning broken ones.)

- University of Utah's School of Computing found and recovered a magnetic tape with the only known copy of Unix v4, the first version of the operating system, written in that shiny newfangled language known as C. In it's source is the famous code comment "you are not expected to understand this".
- Part 2 of Megalag's Honey investigation dropped. TL;DR: "Honey captures any hidden coupon codes it sees & leaks them via its app, damaging a coupon's analytics." But isn't that the app's point? ML's part 1 vid about Honey stealing affiliate cred was legit, but part 2 is a Honey sales pitch to me.
- Show me how your 2025 went.
- Season 3 of The Orville pulls zero punches. In some ways it out Star Treks even Star Trek. Huge jump in production quality over previous seasons, too. Hope it gets a 4th season, though under the current climate (both in terms of the industry and politics) I sadly give that long odds.

- Tried to watch Grenadier. Aborted after disc 1, couldn't find it in me to do disc 2. Was told it was Trigun with... boobs. Indeed there were boobs as promised, but Trigun it was not, for substance it had not. And since teen I am not, my middle-aged ass needs more than boobs to keep my attention.

- Currently watching The Orville. Nearly finished with season 2. My ~75yr old mother's commentary is as entertaining as the show itself. "This is such a pervy show! That guy got another guy pregnant? And he laid an egg? And the captain had an affair with his XO? And the doctor did it with a slime?!"

- I remember watching this at a college anime club. Each episode is double length, which helps its part slice of life, part action plot. Also kinda apropos given the duality of the young protagonist(s?) themselves. A forgotten gem that deserves more attention. Hopefully a Blu-ray is in its future.

- Amazon, no. You cannot tell me that bleeding hemorrhoid of a "dub" you did to Banana Fish was at all vetted by a human. -"AI-aided processes like this one, which incorporate the right amount of human expertise, can enable localization for titles that would not otherwise be accessible to customers."
- Reposted by T. WilliamsLet me give some insight on this, as a producer in the dub industry who worked with major streamers, who's witnessed first-hand where this push for AI is coming from. tl;dr: Only CEOs want this. Tell them how much you hate it. Be loud, email, call, @, post. You will kill this. 🧵⬇️
