- Very interesting paper on public support for the EU 👇
- NEW PAPER ALERT! My paper, with @bjornhoyland.bsky.social , on how “policy loss” shapes support for the EU has just been published in @cpsjournal.bsky.social. Check it out! 1/
- 🌍🇺🇸 Published Today in PNAS Nexus 🌍🇺🇸 How can we foster collective climate action? - led by @dgoldwert.bsky.social, @smconstantino.bsky.social & @madalina.bsky.social - 17 behavioral interventions, designed by 50 experts - tested on >30000 US participants academic.oup.com/pnasnexus/ar... 🧵 1/11

View full threadOverall, I was impressed with how effective many of these quite simple and brief interventions were at inducing behavioral change. Based on partisan heterogeneity, they won’t help recruit skeptics into the broader climate-mitigation coalition but rather mobilize those who are already in it. 10/11
- This tracks well with heterogeneity analyses from a study with @miriamsorace.bsky.social, Tom Robinson & @simonhix.bsky.social: there, those who were less supportive of climate action to begin with were also less persuaded by nano-targeted climate policy proposals. 11/11 bsky.app/profile/miri...
- Nano-targeting is not a persuasive weapon: it is a dissuasion and polarization weapon. New paper out osf.io/preprints/so... with the brilliant Thomas Robinson, @simonhix.bsky.social and @fresejoris.bsky.social – the first to quantify the perverse incentives/inherent democratic dangers of this tech.
- Instead of reading even more about Matt Goodwin, I would like to read about a system that over years has enabled, defended, and empowered him. A system that discredited his critics and enjoyed him as an enfant terrible. A system that only listened when senior, white, male professors criticized him.

- On the positive side this may be the moment that Europe embraces the need to become strategically independent and discovers that it is not as weak as it thinks it is

- “Is the @eucourtofjustice.bsky.social a social court protecting the ‘have nots’ or an economic court beholden to the ‘haves’?” @silje-hermansen.bsky.social, @louisabo.bsky.social & I have an answer on @verfassungsblog.de. This holiday season, our analysis give us reason to be biased for hope:
- Is the ECJ a plaything of the powerful — or a protector of the weak? New litigation data suggests a clear answer. TOMMASO PAVONE, SILJE SYNNØVE LYDER HERMANSEN & LOUISA BOULAZIZ show how the Court levels the odds for individual rights claimants. verfassungsblog.de/is-the-europ...

- This is a UESD just waiting to happen (get on it @fresejoris.bsky.social!) www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
- Great idea 😉 though I would expect that most consequences (with regard to eg mental health, interests, attitudinal shifts, etc) only slowly come to fruition in the weeks and months following the ban, not immediately after. But I am still curious if anyone has AU survey data in the field right now.
- We will also get good new experimental data on this next year: the registered report for the global social media deactivation study (involving ~300 researchers for ~30 countries) is conditionally accepted prior to data collection at Nature! This will be for changes after two weeks of deactivation.

- Friday brought good news and bad news. Today I am now allowed to share the good. Via the generous donation of the Wallenberg Foundation and the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences, I now have a few million euros to help understand more about the selective inclusion of LGBTQ+ citizens
