- I was asked to review two back-to-back papers in Cell twice. Once initially and once for re-review... they were each 150 pages long including rebuttal. This means 300 pages to evaluate critically and for free. Simply impossible.

- Our first wheat stripe rust avirulence (?!) effector is published "Defence Recognition of a Stripe Rust Fungal Effector Is Uncoupled from Disease Outcomes in Wheat" apsjournals.apsnet.org/doi/10.1094/.... It is not what we expected but this is the most fun part about science. 1/n
- This work combined with several others mentioned in the discussion points to the importance of defense suppressing effectors in the wheat stripe rust system similar to what has been shown for wheat powdery mildew most recently. Hence phenotypic pathotypes might not only be explained by classic Avr/R
