- Factory Butte rises over 1,000 feet above the remote desert near Hanksville, Utah. Made of Mancos Shale, its gray, finely layered slopes create dramatic textures. With its flat top and steep sides, the isolated butte resembles an old industrial building—hence the name “Factory. #utah #photography
