- I've been out of touch a bit because of, well, life and stuff. Here's a tiny Gilia flower in the Mojave Desert a week or so ago. I love the dark blue pollen on these wee gems. 🌿📷

- "By the end of the two-year period, 94% of participants reported they were housed." A million pilot programs show the same thing: when people are given enough money to afford housing, homelessness ends. Other supports matter, but housing comes first. Not policing. Not moralizing. Homes.
- Happy Anniversary to those who celebrate cat attorneys.
- "power holds no value unless it is exercised"
- I wrote about Minnesota and ICE and how average Americans are reclaiming the power that the administration is abusing. www.pbump.net/o/this-is-wh...
- This part of our response essay is where I'm at. Boiling down all of politics to electoralism has been absolutely terrible for resisting rising authoritarianism. www.bostonreview.net/forum/how-no...
- This @bostonreview.bsky.social piece by @adambonica.bsky.social and @jakemgrumbach.bsky.social is an absolute must-read, as are many of the responses to it. Spread this one far and wide.

- I voted against funding for ICE today for the second time. The East Bay has made clear at the Alameda County and city level that we will hold the line against a violent ICE force and support our immigrant communities – I will continue to hold the line and our values with my votes in Congress.

- New research finds negligible benefit from "minimum passing distance" laws requiring drivers to give cyclists space when overtaking them. Protected bike lanes are far more effective. doi.org/10.1016/j.jc...
- It's fascinating that medics are making the effort to switch to anaesthetics with less greenhouse effect while people are driving alone in SUVs
- When you go in for a medical procedure, the gas putting you to sleep may also be warming the planet. That's prompting regulators and hospitals around the world to move to less-polluting alternatives. Read more in @bloomberg.com:

- Hoboken has: 1) No freeway interchanges 2) Few multi-lane streets 3) Small blocks 4) 60k population in 1.25 sq mi (a little smaller than Emeryville So it seems like the recipe for Vision Zero is to smash the freeways, road diet everything, & build dense housing.
- The thing about Hoboken is, the same sort of small scale fixes (see below) that helped them eliminate traffic deaths, also make the city a nicer and more enjoyable place to be. Great to see that Vision Zero success story getting more recognition here: reasonstobecheerful.world/the-city-whe...

- I was a White House ethics lawyer. I used to advise people not to even accept a free cup of coffee from someone who had interests before them. And staff followed those rules. I can’t even find the words to describe the scale of Trump’s corruption here.
