Wandering and wondering. Mostly in Brisbane. Australia and UK current affairs. Cycling - with or without lycra. Weakness for old cars.
- Sounds like a plan. Can the EU formally investigate Nigel’s ties to Russia too please?
- Farage should be careful throwing stones around… very Trumpian to attack others for that of which you are guilty.

- As is your prerogative. But it’s a very different complaint than the one valid against Chrissafullashyte.
- The good thing about having a cashed-up bogan as 'PM-in-waiting'? You just know she'll blow it all on 115-inch flat screen TVS and RAM 1500 utes ... #auspol

- Mortein might be more effective for dear Pauline!

- Chrisafullashyte and Albanese have zero in common. You might not like or approve of Albanese but incompetent he is not.
- As always there are two outcomes for Starmer: He leaves post He stays in post Based on the 40 or so other occasions he was expected to resign by the media. I think there’s a better than average chance he’ll remain in post. I certainly hope so. He’s the best PM for years
- Well quite! The way people bang on you’d think they’d forgotten Sunak, Truss, Johnson, May, Cameron… stretching back to 2010, all disastrous in their varying levels of ineptitude and incompetence, venality and corruption.
- Nigel Farage is going to "save pubs" by cutting 5p off the price of a pint of beer... The £3 billion cost will be funded by reinstating the two-child benefit limit. This might be the worst policy anyone has ever come up with. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

- Standard populist strategy, offer tax cuts that sound good to the ordinary person. In reality the real beneficiaries are corporations, their executives and owners.
- I'm definitely not objecting to the pubs making a bit of extra profit - goodness knows their margins are wafer thin as they are but the idea that the consumer will see a benefit is for the birds.
- Doubt it’ll be pubs either, more likely the major brewers.
- Whether we like it or not, the policy will appeal to many voters, particularly the "why should my taxes pay for other people's kids" crowd but also, those that think the price of a pint will be 5p cheaper. Spoiler alert! It won't.
- Good point. Zero chance brewers/venues will pass on the 5p. Tiny cut for the consumer that would never be noticed, it’s a rounding error. Massive profit boost when you sell thousands/millions of pints!
- Every week it's something new. Epstein, ICE, grift, destroy another American institution. It's fukkin exhausting and it doesn't seem like anyone, R or D is doing a damn thing about it. I think we're gonna have to save ourselves, no one is coming to help. I'll never give up the fight, we can do this!

View full threadThere are many guardrails, checks and balances, inspectors general, etc. the problem is that the republicans in congress are chicken shits. They are afraid to do what’s right for the country because of the base they have been dumbing down for decades.
- It shouldn’t require any politician(s) to act to uphold the law. That’s the whole problem. If Trump breaks the law (civil or criminal) the justice system should automatically kick in. Political interference is always possible but initiation of enforcing the law should be by default not political.
