- Vice President JD Vance gets roundly booed at the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics. "Those are a lot of boos for him, whistling jeering," says the presenter. US athletes receive a warm welcome from fans, though.

- South Minneapolis a hornet’s nest of resistance this AM. Car commuters everywhere, multiple observers on every corner, ICE patrols getting smothered by completely oppressive neighborhood watch. Incredible job guys, you’re all heroes

- I’ve never seen anyone make microtransactions work as a primary revenue stream over any time. The music case is instructive. As soon as it became possible, people ditched iTunes for streaming. For a few years we replaced albums with songs, then replaced both with whole catalogs.
- The Wright Museums Instagram page is HILARIOUS. Think The Office but it's the staff at a Museum for Black History. Better believe this is on my list of places to visit. Gentle Spades "I'm a veteran"
- Kamala Harris ran a good, very aggressive campaign, but started at a significant deficit, and ran headlong into a ocean of misogyny, which has continued to dog her even more post-election, now that people feel empowered to say what they REALLY think about her

- Trump was probably on a path to win the moment the three-cueing zoomer streamer class decided he was a kind of national Fun Uncle, at which the horrors of the first term were washed away and replaced with this idea that he’s the guy who’d give you permission to be a sneering little twit

- This morning at the Minnesota State Capitol. An ice sculpture that reads "PROSECUTE ICE". I'm told the organization behind the sculpture is Common Defense.

- Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue
- I taught a class on “hope” last year and the few theorists who’ve written on it all point out that hope is the harder choice - that despair is easy and too often fashionable

- I find the @whstancil.bsky.social backlash strangely fascinating. At its core it seems to be a desperate effort by folks further to the left to avoid having a liberal (with communication skills) become the face of their movement. But, to be honest, winning was always going to require that.
- I'm pretty far left, and I'm glad to be out there with the stereotypical libs. Anyone who draws lines when the goals are similar isn't really in it for anything they actually believe in.
- Working on a college campus and explaining to students: "I’ve wheat-pasted stuff, made zines, protested for long hours, and read about materialism too much, too, but all of that accomplishes 1/1,000th of what we could if y'all just voted in things like city council primaries consistently...

- In that there's an outcome where the anti-MAGA movement appears broadly liberal and thus broadly popular (there are a lot of liberals) and so wins and there is an outcome where the anti-MAGA movement looks radical and leftist and thus unpopular (there are not a lot of radical leftists) and so loses.
- The irony here is that I think the only way one plausibly achieves truly leftist goals in the United States is by using some milquetoast-seeming Will-Stancil-esque liberal as a trojan horse for them. I am not particularly a socialist, but the only way to socialism in America is 'Sewer socialism.'
