- I just found out that in Kerala, India, most prisoners get 15 days leave to visit their families every three months. Fewer than 100 women are incarcerated in the state, which has a population nearly the size of California. Levels of humanity and civilization unheard of in the U.S.

- I’ve been saying that Carney, unlike many of his peers in the EU or former PM Trudeau, actually understands global power relations. His recent remarks at Davos and deals with China suggest he will try to act shrewdly in Canada’s interests. He’s still a neoliberal though.

- After months of simmering frustrations, the Seattle Social Housing Developer board has fired their CEO Roberto Jimenez. Board members said Jimenez refused to move to Seattle, made slow progress on starting up the org and didn't align with aspects of the vision of social housing as set out by voters.

- Reposted by Guy OronICE just murdered a woman here in Minneapolis. A legal observer. Shot her multiple times while she drove away as ordered. She was a US citizen. Absolute, unequivocal, cold-blooded murder by Trump’s gestapo. Abolish ICE, jail for everyone in charge. This is the lowest bar we accept now.

- Reposted by Guy OronBBC journalists have been banned from describing the kidnapped Venezuelan leader as having been kidnapped. The BBC News Editor has sent this to BBC journalists.
- About 200 people are rallying in downtown Seattle to denounce U.S. military strikes on Venezuela and the kidnapping of its president Nicolás Maduro. The attacks occurred overnight and were authorized by U.S. President Donald Trump. Organizers called for a new anti-war movement to oppose the attacks.
- This has nothing to do with drug trafficking, democracy or dictatorship. This is simply Trump’s desire to turn Venezuela into his own personal fiefdom to steal its oil. Trump is just the most vulgar distillation of the mafia state that is U.S. empire.

- Regardless of what you think of the Venezuelan government (which does have many problems), war will only make things worse — especially for the Venezuelan people.
- Also, if you want to learn more about the woman who administered Katie Wilson’s swearing in ceremony, Pauline the Transit Fairy, read the profile I wrote of her a couple years ago: www.realchangenews.org/news/2023/06...
- Katie Wilson has officially taken the oath of office. In her speech, she pledged to fight for Seattle’s artists, activists and ordinary people who make it run, and liberate residents’ time from the grind of capitalism, saying the city should “honor what you're doing when you’re not making money.”
- It's absolutely packed at Seattle City Hall as hundreds arrive for Katie Wilson's official mayoral inauguration ceremony.
- There is no reason why SPD should stall for 3+ years on public record requests. Every other department has figured out how to reasonably respond to them, as mandated by state law.

- TONIGHT: Coinciding with the winter solstice at 4:21PM, volunteers with SHARE/WHEEL will hold a vigil for the 245 homeless people who died in the Seattle area this year. Since 2022, the group has honored more than 1,100 people who passed away while unhoused or in public due to violence.
- This is one of the worst science-related actions we've seen from this administration this year, and that's saying a lot.
