- This surge in activity, as total fishing hours increased by 65% between 2019 and 2024, has been driven largely by the Chinese fleet. The growing pressure on this keystone fishery and lack of regulation threatens ecosystem collapse and has left vulnerable crew on the fleet exposed to abuse.
