- Reposted by Wren (they/them)“Abolish” or “defund” aren't within grasp in 2026. But where are: - End qualified immunity - Rewrite use-of-force so this crap isn't ruled “within policy” - Overturn July 8 mandatory detention memo - Reinstate TPS - Open up detention centers, enforce humane conditions He doesn’t even *ask* for it.
- Reposted by Wren (they/them)People are worried about the survival of the union, but I'd argue since the head of state seems to be able to cut aid while actively deploying armed loyalists to commit acts of wanton terror in states he considers his political enemies, the union is already dead

- You watch movies to be entertained. I watch movies to feel something.
- I grew up in the 2000s. I've never left the US. My impression was that most of Europe already hated Americans for invading Iraq, being fat and uneducated. Hell, my grandparents visited Europe in the '80s took the piss for being one generation removed from Europe and speaking Quebecois French.
- Reposted by Wren (they/them)If you live in the Cities, an easy way to help immigrant families in hiding is: laundry! Laundromats are ICE magnets, so people without washers need help. The People’s Laundry will drop off laundry to your door to wash and dry and pick up a few days later: thepeopleslaundrympls.com/volunteer/

- Reposted by Wren (they/them)It's so fucking convenient that they get to "fear for their lives" anytime they want to absolve themselves of anything and when we actually fear for our lives because of them and do anything a scared person would do it's justification for our death.

- Reposted by Wren (they/them)Fuck it. Trans folks need MATERIAL SUPPORT. @distributeaid.org is launching an HRT Harm Reduction Toolkit that provides 1 year of medical supplies needed to take injection-based HRT. We were planning to go live in January, but I'm not waiting. Fund the kits here: distributeaid.org/hrt-harm-red...

- I was looking for info about ferries and checked what else was in the news that day. From December 15, 1860 issue of the Springfield Republican, early in the Secession Crisis. Sure enough, the paper quotes an Alabama commissioner citing "an abolition government" as their motive to secede.
- Reposted by Wren (they/them)So I saw a comment on Reddit and had to write an essay about it "You can be a girl if you want to" is useless if you don't know what wanting to be a girl looks like. If lesbians make you sad, read this one
- If you're an anti-revisionist Marxist-Leninist lesbian or DSA member, go to Bookends in Florence. If you're an anarcho-municipalist Beat with a name like Algae, shop at Unnameable Books. If you're a progressive little punk unafraid of belching loudly in public, Broadside Books has you covered.

- hey grok, how can you tell if your city is mobbed up?
- I'm over not having kids out of fear of the climate crisis. I dread convincing my kid not to work on Thanksgiving, giving them the confidence to advocate for their labor, convincing them to value arts & humanities in a world that won't. I also feel unready for the task of being a trans parent.

- If the Great Gatsby is the "longest short book" you will ever read, the Brutalist has to be the "shortest long movie" you will ever see.

- From 1948-1949, Chicopee donated 18 tons of candy to be airdropped into Berlin. Despite winning a war against Germany and holding German POWs in their city, Chicopee believed Berliners were suffering who should not. Today, the federal government prefers to let 29% of Chicopee go hungry.
- Half of my city will lose SNAP benefits on Saturday. Over 70,000 of my neighbors will face food scarcity. It has the highest share of SNAP recipients in the state, but you won't see it mentioned by the General Court or the governor. Even the mayor and City Council have not acknowledged the crisis.

- Reposted by Wren (they/them)literally no need for this the protesters were just standing there, not causing any problems. then here come the police, causing problems. I need @govpritzker.illinois.gov to tell these goons to go home. And if he can't or won't do so, I need to know that, too.

- Reposted by Wren (they/them)It's pretty wild to me that investigators have uncovered that anti-trans campaigns are largely funded by the fossil fuel industry, and that the presumed motivations are pretty directly to redirect the public conversation away from climate change... and that this isn't bigger news.
