- Every video of this game showcases a pixel art technique that’s generally seen as too much trouble for what it’s worth. The results pay off - the game looks great - but it also leaves every other pixel artist sweating with fear.

View full threadYou see how some parts of the scene move faster than others? That’s parallax. It gives the impression of closeness to the camera. When the character is at the top of the stairs, the stairs have more parallax than the above floor. When the character reaches the bottom, the stairs have no parallax.
- So at some point the stair parallax turned off, giving the illusion of a slope. But we didn’t notice elements of the scene judder or drift, and the player character didn’t change speed. That’s fiddly to implement and so subtle that it hardly seems worth it. But it makes the stair height feel real!

- Relatedly, do you have any writing or thoughts about RenPy-style VNs on mobile platforms? There’s an ecosystem of people who play mobile otomes, but my impression is that’s its own beast.
