- Reposted by Dr. Natalie TatumJust published: Our paper on high-throughput analysis of cyclin docking interactions, led by the group of Norman Davey @icr.ac.uk and with some small-complex-plus-peptide #cryoEM by @natalia-mg.bsky.social from my lab. Congratulations, everyone! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

- Crystallography for the "dark proteome"? From @nudrugdiscovery.bsky.social and @chemistryncl.bsky.social : #FragLites map protein–protein interaction sites including regions with no previously known function. 🧵1/3 #DrugDiscovery #ChemBio 📖 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
- While FragLites reliably bound to established interaction regions like the Palm site, ATP cleft, and RXL motif, we see a previously uncharacterized site at the CDK2–cyclin A interface. This site, rich in fragment engagement, may extend the SKP2 binding surface described by Kelso et al. (2021). 🧵 2/3
- Today was one of those Good Days in Academia where (a) an experiment gave me a result I was hoping for, which is Super Cool, and (b) an undergrad emailed asking for advice and I could give them resources and context to point them on the next step of their journey. Little important wins 🩷
- Reposted by Dr. Natalie TatumChatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
- I'm at #DurhamHPCDays today to present in the Computational Biosciences workshop. Always lovely to come back to Durham, and this time to see a shiny new Maths+CompSci building!

- @xtaldave.xtaldave.net.ap.brid.gy Your post to the ccp4bb is a thing of beauty.

- Latest preprint out in the wild! This is some older work which lingered on our to-do lists; we published the crystal structure of the human IRF4 DNA-binding domain (6TD4) in 2020!

- Pleasure to be on the judging panel for the @mosmedcdt.bsky.social Project Ideation session! An excellent showcase of ideas from all of the teams. Congratulations to our winners, who really emphasised patient need and presented a clear way forward to address it. 👏
- Spent today with @newcastleuni.bsky.social development team on their new leadership induction course! Lots to take away and reflect upon 💪

- Revisiting this post because while I did finish Northanger Abbey, I recently failed to beat my all time Pride and Prejudice record (25% 😅). I'm just not a Victorian prose girly.

- Latest paper on CDK structural biology from the Endicott & Noble labs is in press at Structure! Good old fashioned mutational studies and fun newfangled AlphaFold modelling to characterise the interaction of CRABP2 with CDK4/6-Cyclin D3. 🧶🧬 #biophysics www.cell.com/structure/fu...
- I've been riding the high of a positive experimental result on Friday morning all through the weekend. One of those ones you weren't getting your hopes up about, but then you see something binds something else and the mutants don't and you do an involuntary little dance and maybe swear a bit. 🧶🧬
- Reposted by Dr. Natalie TatumDiscussing Bluesky migration in terms of liberal flight misses the simple fact that most people use social media for fun not influence and this platform, unlike X and cruddified Facebook, doesn’t feel like you’re wading through shit to reach your friends. It’s not that deep.

- Preprint out now! We used FragLites to map a complex for which there are structurally characterised partner proteins and show how the FragLites are really good at (a) preferentially binding to PPI sites, and (b) mimicking hotspot interactions. This can help guide separation-of-function mutations!

- Kicking off the #mosmed24 conference @newcastleuni.bsky.social!
- It's conference week in our house: I'm home @newcastleuni.bsky.social for the MoSMed CDT conference #mosmed24, and I'm flying solo with the toddler while Husband is off to CHEMUK2024 in Birmingham! It's going to be a loooong couple of days 😅

- My reading goal for April is to finish a Jane Austen novel, something I've never been able to do. I'm more than halfway through Northanger Abbey now, so it's just a matter of will-power. 💙📚 (Nothing against Austen btw, just find the style of 19thC prose so challenging for some reason.)

- There's something so lovely and hilarious about our 2yo repeating back our positive reinforcement when she sees us accomplish a task. Everyone needs a toddler to celebrate their mundane achievements with a "well done, mammy" or a "good job Daddy" 😅
- Many thanks to @laurencepearl.bsky.social for sharing a code to bring me aboard the good ship bluesky - definitely starting to fill the void I've felt in the months since leaving the Old App!
