- Reposted by Seth Bushinskymy great-grandparents arrived in the UK in the 1890s with nothing. they sold pickles from the front room window, took in laundry, worked as tailors. their children were nurses, teachers, salesmen. their grandchildren were professors, designers, opticians, doctors, magistrates, entrepreneurs.

Float 5905383 is the first @soccomproject.bsky.social float for 2025/26. It has spent 7.9 years operating under ice. #argofloats #oneargo

- My @ternbicycles.com GSD may be the best purchase I have ever made in my life. It's hard to overstate how much I enjoy riding it with my kids. We've been able to avoid getting a second car as well, which is a huge financial help. It was my first ebike and I'm convinced everyone should try one.

- My first PhD student, Shannon McClish, successfully defended last week. She's been at the leading edge of research into the linkages between surface production and biological carbon export. Couldn't be more proud of her and her work. Its nice to have something to celebrate these days.

- Reposted by Seth BushinskyEveryone is acting like US scientists will just go get science jobs elsewhere and sure some will but there are not anywhere close to enough science jobs elsewhere. The end result of this will be much, much, much less science, not science happening in different places.

- Reposted by Seth BushinskyThe Secretary of Commerce's new policy requiring his personal review of all NOAA contracts over $100,000 is directly harming American science. 🧪 How do I know? Because this morning, twelve of America's rising leaders in climate science (including myself) were furloughed.
- Reposted by Seth BushinskyAs of today, all current NOAA Climate and Global Change postdoctoral fellows have been furloughed due to the Dept of Commerce not releasing the funding for the program. In addition no new Fellows were awarded this year. cpaess.ucar.edu/cgc
- Reposted by Seth BushinskyI don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

- Reposted by Seth BushinskyElon Musk casually, and illegally, dismantled USAID. According to a new study in the Lancet, that action will lead to *14 million* premature deaths between 2025 and 2030. Again: Elon Musk is directly responsible for 14 million coming deaths. 4.5 million will be children.

- Reposted by Seth BushinskyIt's infuriating how 99% of the coverage of this new war doesn't bother to mention that it is happening because we had an agreement to limit and monitor Iran's nuclear program, which even Trump's own aides said was working, and he blew it up because it was negotiated under Obama.

- Reposted by Seth BushinskyThis is an absolute disaster. If we don't stop this, they will turn NSF into a pawn of the Trump administration. There will be no research on climate, biodiversity, or anything that isn't eugenics or AI or how to more efficiently destroy the planet for profit. This cannot be allowed to happen.
