- 8F, no one driving, eyelashes frozen 🫡❄️
- Honestly cannot remember the last time we got a synoptic winter storm with temperatures this cold. Heavy snow continuing through the evening...
- I mean, tech leaders were quite literally with Trump yesterday:
- Nearly 150 million Americans are under a winter storm warning. Some locations might see an inch of ice, which would be devastating. Meanwhile, the government is trying to downplay messaging to avoid reminding folks of the ICE occupation in MN. All at the expense of Americans' safety.
- Reposted by Marc AlessiI want to appreciate for a moment: There’s a historic ice storm bearing down on a huge part of the country. And government workers are being told to downplay the ice—the most damaging part of the storm—bc they’re worried it might remind people of the government’s disastrous occupation in Minnesota

- Good luck to those traveling to AMS this weekend...
- That heinous DOE climate report written by climate skeptics? Unlawfully formed. Let's take the wins where we can! 👏
- I'm not sure how to react to posts like this, because on the one hand, she was perfectly ok with the government going after LGBT families. But on the other hand, this type of messaging is just a tool of the billionaires to turn minorities against each other. We can't organize if we're fighting

- This Facebook comment I just saw 😢
- Are Dems finally learning how to govern?
- In other words it’s been an incredible winter for Syracusans ❄️😍
- 💡 New paper alert! For me, the use of AI in climate science is exciting and has so much potential, but I worry that it risks taking away the best part of studying atmospheric science: understanding how our complex ocean and atmosphere system works dynamically.
- Second snowiest day on record!!!???
- Need everyone to know that yesterday was the snowiest Syracuse calendar day since the Storm of the Century in 1993! Snowiest day in my life 😍
- In case you’re wondering what I was just up to 😍
- Spot the lake effect snow band
- This map is great because, yes, while the Northeast has been colder than usual this December, the west has been on fire. The magnitude of the anomalies aren’t even close— it’s way hotter out west than it is cooler in the Northeast compared to normal

- Still thinking about that squall line from this morning 😍
- Reposted by Marc AlessiThe dismantling of NCAR should be the trending story on Bluesky, not the fucking Oscars leaving ABC for YouTube.

- The sweater I’m wearing tomorrow to fly to AGU 😍🌧️⛰️
- Consider signing up for this exciting hybrid workshop on Climate and AI in January! I'm excited to speak on one of the panels with @eabarnes.bsky.social and Amelia Cook, moderated by Katie Dagon www.nationalacademies.org/projects/DEP...
- Heading to AGU next week? Check out our session on Monday!
- So incredibly proud of the @wclivestream.bsky.social team. And I am deeply grateful to work at such an incredible organization that supported me in this effort. Please continue to support science and scientific funding!!

- We saw less hurricanes than usual in 2025, but the ones that did form were incredibly powerful. Is this a glimpse of what we might expect in future hurricane seasons? I wrote down some thoughts here! blog.ucs.org/marc-alessi/...

- Copernicus just released its November numbers: 2025 is on track to be one of the top 3 warmest years on record. The Jan-Nov period ties 2023 for the second warmest ever.

- It got down to -22F at Saranac Lake Airport last night 🧊
- Thursday night temps 👀👀👀
- Was checking out the snowfall totals on CoCoRaHS from the lake effect event on Friday... I didn't realize that some locations got over a foot in Madison and Oneida counties! I ended up with about 8 inches in the city of Syracuse
- Not the fossil fuel companies that correctly predicted climate change with their own climate models in the 1980s, and then started to spread disinformation in the 90s to profit off their known destruction of the planet, right?
- The US dodged a bullet this year with no direct hit by a hurricane… especially during the government shutdown. Huge props to the forecasters at the NHC who worked without pay (and the hurricane hunters!)
- We even got that Georgian Bay connection today 😍
- Please consider reading this beautifully-written and timely blog post by my colleague: blog.ucs.org/erika-spange...
- So cool: northerly wind at the surface bringing in lake effect snow from Lake Ontario, and southerly wind higher up in the atmosphere bringing in snow from the south. Two different types of snow ❄️
- So he’s… literally trying to starve Americans
