Kevin Hardegree-Ullman
Research Scientist at Caltech/IPAC-NExScI studying all things related to exoplanets! Opinions are my own. https://kevinkhu.com
- The JWST Cycle 6 deadline will be September 30th. I don't think past JWST proposal deadlines have coincided with ground-based telescope deadlines. I have expressed my concerns to the JWST User's Committee Chair and I encourage you to do the same. #astronomy 🔭 www.stsci.edu/jwst/science...
- Of course this got pushed back when I am basically ready to hit submit... Reminds me of when the NESSF (now FINESST) deadline was pushed because of another winter storm. We had 2 feet of snow at that time. ❄️ #exoplanets

- ✨ New NASA #Exoplanet Archive Tutorial Video! ✨ This one highlights the differences between the Planetary Systems and Planetary Systems Composite Data tables. Take note of the strong warning NOT to use these tables directly for population or exoplanet demographic studies! youtu.be/MsUev8aMPKg
- HD 101581 b is a real planet about the size of Earth, meaning it is probably also rocky! exoplanetarchive.ipac.caltech.edu/overview/HD%... Did @theonion.com use the NASA #Exoplanet Archive for source material for this article?! 🤔
- Eye dilation is weird. I can see clearly in front of me between 5 and 20 cm without glasses, and a few meters ahead of me with glasses, but in between is a blur. Sounds like there's a physics problem in there. 🤓😵💫
- Check out the @caltechipac.bsky.social booth at #AAS247! Also, be sure to ask about our student opportunities! (www.ipac.caltech.edu/page/students) 🔭
- Am I the only #exoplanet astronomer irked when people don't refer to this planet as the full Proxima Centauri b or at least Proxima Cen b? 🔭

- Tornado warning in LA County was not on my 2025 bingo card, but here we are.
- We've added a tool to upload your published parameters to the NASA Exoplanet Archive! This tool can help us get your new planets and planet parameters onto the archive, so check it out and consider using for your next #exoplanet paper! 🔭🧪 exoplanetarchive.ipac.caltech.edu/support/uplo...
- Today marks 1 year since I started as a staff scientist at @caltechipac.bsky.social! I'm excited to be supporting the #exoplanet community while continuing my own research and collaborations! www.ipac.caltech.edu/meet-the-sta...
- #Exoplanet folks, check out Eric's posts to follow along with all the great talks at #ExSoCal! 🔭
- Happy to be a small part of @caltechipac.bsky.social's support of the astronomical community! 🔭
- If you're into #astronomy and #LEGO bricks, this is definitely a project worth supporting! 🔭🧪
- Happy 14 orbits to the NASA #Exoplanet Archive! Launched on December 5, 2011, the archive has become THE destination for published exoplanet parameters. I've been using it since its inception, and now I'm lucky enough to get to help maintain it and make it better for all astronomers!

- Despite not being a professor, I do actually love guest lecturing about #exoplanets!
- You know a country has a gun problem when this is being sold to 3-year-olds in a store called "The Baby Shop."
- Interesting timing. Today, Caltech sent an email call for nominations for the Richard P. Feynman Prize for Excellence in Teaching. A few years ago I tried (and failed) to get them to rename the prize.

- Brown. Dwarfs. Are. Purple. Fixing what really matters (to me) on the NASA #Exoplanet Archive since December 2024. 🤣 🔭
- Little kids are quite clever at naming things for which they do not know the word. 3 yo recovering from a 24 hr stomach bug: "Mommy, I want to keep my diaper on. I have melty poop." 🫠💩

- The culture of "you must first-author publication(s) as an undergrad in order to succeed/get into grad school" is toxic and favors privileged students. It needs to stop. 🔭🧪
- Halloween observations this year: kids prefer fruity candy over chocolate by at least 2:1. Also, nobody ever has, or ever will, like Almond Joy. 🎃
- Awesome, another paper of mine has reached 100 citations! 📜
- Thank you Colorado State University! Congrats on 60 years of the Madison-Macdonald Observatory! 🔭
- Happening tomorrow!
- Join me at Colorado State University's Madison-Macdonald Observatory 60th anniversary celebration on October 17th from 3-8:30 pm! 🔭 There will be solar observing, physics demos, and stargazing, and I will be presenting a public lecture about #exoplanets! www.physics.colostate.edu/about/astron...
- The NASA #Exoplanet Archive now has Gaia DR3 IDs! This should hopefully make your work and planning observations easier! exoplanetarchive.ipac.caltech.edu
- It has been a while since I just got to "play" with a telescope! 🔭

- Do you even lift?
- The Arecibo sky bridge, as seen from the secondary support structure in 2013. Sadly, this bridge no longer exists. 😞
