Emerging Crises
Tracking disasters, public health, extremism, and democracy. Examining how misinformation, mistrust, politics, and attacks on science shape preparedness.

- Great summary from @carmenshaw.bsky.social in Pandora Report. SC has 789 measles cases, the largest outbreak since 2000. Yet the U.S. is strong-arming Gavi to drop safe preservatives based on debunked myths. We're losing containment at home and using aid $ to force that dysfunction on everyone else.
- She was monitoring an ICE agent. He stopped, scanned her face, and greeted her by name. 3 days later, her Global Entry revoked. Agents are using Mobile Fortify and Palantir to target citizens (facial rec + social media monitoring). We learned the wrong lessons from the post-9/11 surveillance state.
- One month into 2026, measles cases are already at 25% of last year's total. In April, an international panel will decide if the U.S. loses its "elimination status," a designation we've held since 2000. We are watching our nation regress in real time.
- It's not 'doxxing' federal agents for the public to know who they are. We are supposed to know, our taxes pay their salaries. That is the only way to hold them accountable. Police wear badges. ICE is masking up because they know what they're doing is illegal. They don't want to answer for it.
- Hegseth refers to domestic opponents as "lunatics." These are the same American citizens the military is sworn to protect. This gives us a glimpse of the Rules of Engagement if troops are deployed here. He is treating the American public like an insurgency.
- Reposted by Emerging CrisesBREAKING Star Tribune: Eight additional federal prosecutors are in the process of leaving the Minnesota U.S. Attorney's Office, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. The departures follow the mass exit of six veteran prosecutors who left the office last month.
- Wired went through the gun forums to see how they are justifying this. Rittenhouse was a hero with a rifle. Pretti was a "terrorist" (even though he had a valid permit. Guess the Second Amendment isn't a constitutional right anymore. It's just a perk for state loyalists.
- The FBI files include "salacious information" and over a dozen tips about the President and Epstein. Trump's name is mentioned 5,300 times (And imagine what they're not releasing!) Merrick Garland had years to act, but...
- The MN Sec. of State spoke of a new reality: Federal intervention in state elections is now a "preparedness category, like a weather event, or bomb threat." He spoke hours after the FBI seized 2020 ballots from Fulton County. The federal govt is no longer a partner. It is a hazard to be managed.
- A federal judge formally chastised the govt for its "ignorance of... the Declaration of Independence" and called for “a more orderly and humane policy than currently in place. The father entered legally. The child was detained anyway. That is 3,800 children taken since last January (Gift Link)
- "There’s no reason to fucking protest... the federal government was doing the job itself." —Enrique Tarrio We are watching the full integration of the paramilitary fringe into state operations. The militia didn't vanish. It got badges.
- Reposted by Emerging CrisesThis. Is. Authoritarianism. It's. Not. "Like." It. This. Is. It.
- So the judge acknowledged the harm that's being done but is letting the federal agents continue their attacks on public safety... make it make sense. www.axios.com/2026/01/31/i...
- You may have missed this in the chaos of last week. The WHO confirmed the U.S. withdrawal "makes both the United States and the world less safe." We led the eradication of smallpox. Now we are voluntarily dismantling our biodefense infrastructure. I am embarrassed to be an American.
- The state hates the fact that you disagree with them. Miller called a nurse an "assassin." Noem called a victim a "terrorist." Andrew Weinstein (Holocaust Memorial Council) nails it: They're reclassifying the population. Once you are an "enemy," violence becomes self-defense. That's the endgame.
- Reading this '22 piece in '26 hits different. We're watching the exact mechanism described: Algorithms prioritize engagement over accuracy. When they push a "terrorist" lie, the platform amplifies the bullshit faster than the video evidence can catch up. It’s asymmetric warfare against reality.
- The administration gutted the foreign-influence centers at the FBI, ODNI, and the State Dept. The ones that "helped warn the public that China, Russia and Iran were targeting Americans with election-related disinformation." They also slashed DHS election security teams. Mind boggling.
- Physicians in Minneapolis confirm patients are refusing medical care because they fear ICE agents, who have been spotted inside and around facilities. Even U.S. citizens are avoiding the ER if they have an accent. This is a public health catastrophe. It’s also fucking barbaric.
- 💯 "This moment is about whether we will reject or embrace legislated racism, the dehumanization of vulnerable human beings, the erasure of civil rights, and a lawless, merciless, State-sanctioned brutality"
- This is no longer a political conversation; it’s a moral one. It's not about a policy difference, not a simple disagreement on the responsible way to deal with collective national challenges... johnpavlovitz.substack.com/p/politics-i...
- Trump’s acting CISA director, Madhu Gottumukkala, uploaded sensitive federal files to a public version of ChatGPT. It triggered a DHS-level damage assessment. The people claiming to "secure the homeland" can't even follow basic data hygiene.
- The regime's efforts to blame the victims their goons murdered is still getting to me. And the way they effortlessly, callously, and egregiously lie about what we saw with our own eyes. It goes without saying that we can't believe a single thing our Dept. of 'Homeland Security' says moving forward.
- The State's position is their masked, untrained goons can terrorize your community, racially profile, raid homes w/out warrants + execute citizens like Good and Pretti. Then defame your memory as a 'terrorist'. Where the hell are the libertarians speaking out against true big govt authoritarianism?
- If Texas flood delays and lying about ICE murdering Americans weren't enough reason to fire her, here is another: Sec. Noem is freezing disaster aid. She is causing "unusual delays" in payments already approved for roads and water systems. Some of this outstanding aid dates back to 2017.
- Alex Pretti was a VA nurse executed in his neighborhood. He never drew his weapon. Times, WSJ & AP confirm the video contradicts the official lie. Fascism is here. If we can't trust DHS because they lie about a murder we all saw, what else are they hiding? What is happening behind the scenes?
- Reposted by Emerging CrisesWe have reached the point where any statement made by a Trump administration official must be assumed to be a lie until proven otherwise.
- Neighborhoods are running on encrypted Signal channels. 65,000 citizens have trained in counter-surveillance, tracking federal convoys like dispatchers. It is a "meticulous urban choreography." A teacher shielding students admits the terror: "I don’t think I’ve stopped shaking for two weeks."
- Reposted by Emerging Crises"Separate analyses by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Associated Press, CBS News and other organizations all concluded that the videos contradict the Trump administration’s description of the killing." www.nytimes.com/2026/01/25/o...
- We shouldn't be shocked at this point that they didn't wait for facts. Minutes after shooting Alex Pretti, the regime called him a "terrorist" and "assassin." He was a VA nurse helping a neighbor. They pushed the "massacre" story immediately bc they needed the lie to travel faster than the video.
- The hesitation to use the word should be gone. Jonathan Rauch held out for years, calling it "gangsterism." Now he admits the reality. "Fascism is not a territory with clearly marked boundaries but a constellation of characteristics." The constellation is visible. 🧵 (Gift Article)
- "Videos contradict the federal government’s description..." The regime continues to lie. DHS claimed Alex Pretti attacked. Video proves he was recording. Agents pepper-sprayed, pinned, and fired multiple shots into an ICU nurse. You don't need a NYT analysis to confirm a state-sponsored execution.
- Reposted by Emerging CrisesJack Smith: "I do not understand why you would mass pardon people who assaulted police officers. I don't get it. I never will."
- Reposted by Emerging CrisesEveryone in America should have to see these cases and think about what they mean for the kind of society we are becoming. They killed a mom in her minivan. And now they have grabbed this poor sweet kid, used him as bait to grab his dad, and sent him to a detention center in Texas.
- The author disabled quotes.I do not understand why Dems (or someone) are not broadcasting wall to wall montages of ICE thugs abusing our neighbors, abducting children, terrorizing US citizens, invading homes w no warrant, or murdering mothers. This should be a massive exercise in ISSUE SALIENCE driven by Dem elites.
- Extremism Watch-Success Story @decoherence.media identified Jacob Jones as leader of the neo-Nazi "Heartland Active Club." Jones, a former Marine organizing paramilitary training, was unmasked via tattoos, leaked data, and geolocation despite his aliases.
- First-time homebuyers are now 40. Families are rationing groceries. Meanwhile, the President pocketed $1.4 billion in his first year back. That is 16,822 times the median income. We are scraping by while the executive branch functions as a collection agency.
- 1️⃣ Congressional support: Funding is now political leverage. 2️⃣ Overhead costs: Caps could bankrupt labs. 3️⃣ Political appointees: Loyalty tests replace merit. 4️⃣ Universities: Endowments taxed. 5️⃣ International students declining: We are locking talent out. We are sanctioning our own innovation sector.
- On MLK Jr. Day, it's fitting to talk about how a judge ruled aginst ICE conduct in Minneapolis that "evokes the civil rights era." Judge Menendez found a "common practice" of chilling rights, citing agents "gratuitously deploying chemical irritants" because they were "fed up" with peaceful protests.
- Electoral Authoritarianism & Preparedness 🧵 Gessen is an expert on authoritarianism and explains how we've become a country whose: 🔹Govt deploys paramilitary forces to terrorize cities. 🔹Citizens are summarily executed for protesting. 🔹Colleges are attacked and scientific research is defunded...
- "Terrorism" used to mean something specific. Now DHS applies it to Renee Good, a mom with a "glove box full of stuffed animals." The Atlantic describes the shift. A department once focused on threat levels has been "twisted into a trolling operation infused with white nationalism."
- NEW: How the Department of Homeland Security, founded to prevent another 9/11 terrorist attack, has turned into the partisan political tool its critics always feared www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...
- The goal is market share. Tear down the expert to sell the supplement. You can’t grift your way through a crisis. Attacking science makes us brittle. Future Americans will read about this corrupt dismantling of public health and wonder "Were people just okay with this?"
- Reposted by Emerging Crises“These are no longer dog whistles,” Jon Lewis, a research fellow at the Program on Extremism at George Washington University, said. “They’re bullhorns.” www.nbcnews.com/tech/interne...
- Shout out to the residents and journalists putting the pressure on these companies. Simultaneously, the admin is cutting regulations to force these builds. It should be the bare minimum for AI companies to 100% finance their own infrastructure costs. Hands off our water supplies and grid.
