- You can’t fight an authoritarian leader who seeks to acquire new lands by asking whether it would solve any social problems. At some point, he will simply claim that the new lands are needed for their resources, to serve his people, and to ensure society’s survival. At that point, you are naked!

Until today, the EPP, the largest group in the European Parliament, wanted to move forward with ratification despite the Greenland tensions.
- I agree with this 👇. They cannot hand over Greenland for the precedent vis-a-vis Trump, for the signal to Xi and Putin, the signal they send home („you may all be for sale“) — and finally, because Denmark is a veto player on this, obviously, and it simply won’t agree to it.

- This 👇 is so true, and I feel more positive about it than a few weeks ago. I think the Greeland extortion is too stark to muddy it in Brussels waters. It is also something most people have an intuitive feeling of being unacceptable. It looks like a step too big for now. Europe won’t fall for it.

- I think what these 👇 considerations all point to — and by now it is blatantly clear: Trump‘s interest in Greenland has nothing to do with national security. It’s just the public sugar-coating of other conscious or subconscious motivations, and this should make everyone very concerned.

It's far cheaper for the US, in material, security, and reputational terms, to have Denmark continue administering Greenland and work within NATO on security.
