- Catalonia is a unique case in Europe, with two radical right parties appealing to different nationalities. Both parties share views on the economy, immigration, and security. But they diverge on gender & LGBT rights, climate change, and especially, the territorial question.
- What is the key driver of support for both? Immigration. But it’s national identity — whether one feels more Catalan or more Spanish — that decides which radical right party voters choose.
-
View full threadAlso, unlike previous parties that vanished once the territorial issue regained prominence (i.e., Plataforma per Catalunya), the distinct national appeals of both Vox and Aliança may allow them to endure even if the independence debate once again dominates Catalan politics.
