- 📊 New paper out in Democratization! How do autocrats actually stay in power? 👉 Open access: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... Co-authored with Wooseok Kim, @eugenian.bsky.social , Ksenia Northmore-Ball, and @ktertytchnaya.bsky.social.
- In “Strategies of political control and regime survival in autocracies”, we show that autocracies rarely rely on a single strategy. Instead, they combine repression, co-optation, and indoctrination in distinct ways.
- 🔍 Can you help? Looking for everyday examples of misinformation We’re working on an experimental project on media literacy and civic reasoning with @shoutoutuk.bsky.social and are looking for real-world examples of misinformation to use in a training intervention.
- We’re not looking for content that is: ⛔ Political ⛔ Designed to trigger strong emotions (fear, anger, outrage)
- I’m really looking forward to discussing our research in the upcoming PRD webinar, organised by the brilliant @jenny-oser.bsky.social. Join us next Wed, 14 Jan, for a timely conversation on how democracy can be promoted online - and what research tells us about what actually works. More details ⬇️
- Can democracy promotion still work where terrorism is pervasive? A common assumption is that insecurity pushes citizens toward authoritarian “strongmen”. Our new research tests whether that is actually true.
- 🧑🎓Can democracy promotion strengthen support for democracy in terrorism-affected regions? ➡️ Using a randomized experiment in Burkina Faso, S Yameogo @anjaneundorf.bsky.social & @aykutozturk.bsky.social find that democracy promotion videos boost democratic support www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
- 2/ In a new @psrm.bsky.social article, Souleymane Yameogo, @aykutozturk.bsky.social, and I run a randomized online experiment in Burkina Faso, a country facing chronic terrorist violence and democratic backsliding.
- New article out in @bjpols.bsky.social 🎉 Why do elections remain widely supported even as democratic checks and balances erode around the world?

- Reposted by Anja NeundorfThe Spanish centre-right is taking a tumble and the far-right is on the rise. I was lucky enough to present some new causal work on Friday at LSE showing that the PP does better when it signals distinctiveness from VOX. ~1.5K tests, same result. Rejecting far-right benefits centre-right
