- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairIt gets worse! Just when you thought they had come up with the worst possible legislation they've gone and made it worse again. irishcycle.com/2026/02/04/a...
- And there we have it folks, having failed to do anything to halt the injury and death toll on our roads the government now plans to criminalise cycling. This will kill bike share schemes around the country. @bleeperactive.bsky.social www.thejournal.ie/e-bikes-scoo...
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairI was wearing hi vis when a motorist drove into me. Passengers in the car got out to tell me the driver was really upset because she didn't see me. I didn't have much sympathy as I was picking gravel out of my hands. I was visible. She didn't look.
- This is absolutely and utterly moronic All these measures do is decrease the number of people cycling They do not increase cyclist safety Motorists are killing pedestrians and cyclists every week Where is the panicked calls for regressive (and unproven) measures against motoring?
- All bicycles included in draft plan for mandatory helmets and high-vis, Department confirms irishcycle.com/2026/02/04/a...
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairI know there's a massive amount going on but the government amending the arbitration act to sign us up to CETA needs serious coverage and the risks of corporate courts need to be spelled out.
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairMedia coverage of Gaza has plummeted. So today on @thenation.com, we're doing something pretty special: we're only running pieces by people in and from Gaza. We're calling it "A Day for Gaza." You can find links to all of the incredible pieces here. Please read! www.thenation.com/article/worl...

- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairVideos from Gaza show huge explosions as Israeli air attacks hit a building in Gaza City and tents in al-Mawasi. Gaza’s Government Media Office says more than 500 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since a US-brokered ceasefire came into effect on October 10.
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairThe group bike ride for Alex Pretti is about to depart in Minneapolis, stopping at his memorial, then Renee Good’s, and finishing at the VFW. If you can join, hop on anywhere. It’s a warm 17° & sunny! I’ve never seen this many cyclists for a group ride. ⚡️✊🏽⚡️🚲⚡️✊🏽⚡️ #RIPPretti

- Mediahuis's advertising for the Sunday World rebrand is... Provocative I guess there's an economic argument to be made for encouraging people to enter the world of norm non-compliance if you're business is reporting on it
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairRas ein al-Uja, the Ghor (Jordan valley). This small village was expelled in its entirety by the settlers in recent weeks. Settlers also vandalised the school, and wrote on the whiteboard: All Arabs will die. Source: Mistaklim (Looking the occupation in tye eye) www.mistaclim.org/en
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairOn August 12, 2017, Heather Heyer was killed by a neo-Nazi in Charlottesville. On August 17, 2017, Noam Chomsky told the Washington Examiner that antifa was “a gift to the far right”. In between those dates he met with Jeffrey Epstein in Tuscon.
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairOn the anniversary of Bloody Sunday i can’t help but reflect on how we are beholden to a bicameral parliament based in London, with NI reps a tiny minority, and hoping they’ll take out some of the most egregious clauses as they continue to impose a legacy bill. www.rte.ie/news/ulster/...

- One of the extraordinary features of the Irish Coroners' Courts system is that Gardaí are actively involved in recruiting jurors – sometimes off the street The Gov made a specific exception for the second Stardust Inquest: www.oireachtas.ie/en/bills/bil... But that was a once-off
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairJustice minister Jim O’Callaghan’s department has embarrassingly included three long-rescinded laws in its “anti-democratic and authoritarian” new Civil Reform Bill. The Department of Justice told The Ditch the errors will be “amended”. www.ontheditch.com/jim-ocallagh...
- Curiously this story is absent from news organisations that enthusiastically employed Israel's genocide-denying propaganda term "Hamas-run health ministry" News organisations like @news.rte.ie
- This is a truly deranged position Some Gardaí here want to use high speed chase tactics Which massively increases risks to the general public & should only be used in exceptional cases to prevent very very serious offences To seize kids on scramblers www.thejournal.ie/garda-scramb...
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairImagine if there was an epidemic of pubs selling alcohol to children and instead of shutting the pubs responsible the government imposed a nationwide curfew on everyone under 16.
- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairSitting across the Oireachtas Children's Committee on online safety for children. Very much getting the impression that a lot of politicians are reaching for the Under-16 ban. Momentum behind that rather than a deeper understanding of platforms, algorithms and any alternative view.
- The only gap there might be is in terms of parental accountability I am generally highly sceptical about efforts to punish parents for the wrongdoing of their children (usually very unfair) But parents buying their children motorbikes & escooters is to my mind active complicity

- Not at all surprised an Irish jury acquitted But the perversions of the concept of discretion used by the defence & some of the Garda witnesses were breathtaking, to say the least And the DPP seemed uninterested or incapable of challenging them www.rte.ie/news/2026/01...

- The Brits pioneered militarised policing in the ever-useful colonial laboratory that was/is Ireland Americans learned lessons from those experiments And it's not like policing doesn't look like that here anymore

- Reposted by Cian Ó ConcubhairOf all the complaints in this article, this one stands out: “When will motorists get something? I’ve yet to see any plans to improve infrastructure for those that drive.” A reminder to the submitter: cars already own Ireland. Our towns, cities, and transport policy have long been built around them.

- Early contender for splash of the year Superb stuff Story by @mickthehack.bsky.social – don't know who the clever sub who came up with the pun was though
- This is the report that deals with the Garda investigation into how Conor Lally found out about the court case I cannot see how telling a journalist that a Garda is being prosecuted in public court contravenes s62 of the 2005 Act www.irishtimes.com/crime-law/20...

- This is where the logic of An Garda Síochána's recent re-attempt at shaming drug users takes you
- The Greek Police has referred me to the State Prosecutor with a request that I be prosecuted as a drug traffic enabler. There seems to be no end to the European authorities' efforts to emulate Trump's project of returning us to a bleak, fascist past greekreporter.com/2026/01/05/y...
- I don't think this is unique to public prosecutors But it's frustrating how unwilling our DPP is to pursue serious charges in these & other cases (notably motoring homicides) Here it looks very much like there was enough evidence to ground at least a s3 assault charge
