- Incredibly important points made here about our current reality. It seems so dissonant to go to work and raise our families while people are being murdered by the state in the streets. And that is actually the point. #DualState www.nytimes.com/2026/01/26/o...

- There is no bottom--not only is this sick, vile, and lacking of any human empathy, but it is a not subtly veiled threat that anyone who opposes him can be murdered (and a green light to his extremist base to carry it out). The only derangement is our president's, and anyone who can condone this
- Reposted by Bryan D. James, PhD📣 @bryandjames.bsky.social is hiring a postdoc at @rushalzheimers.bsky.social. This work examines predictors and consequences of a timely #dementia diagnosis using CMS claims linked to cohort data. Could be great for an #hpss #statssky #episky #hspr #geronsky PhD student finishing up this year.
- The highlight of #GSA2025 was watching my friend and colleague @beyoung40.bsky.social give her speech for the James Jackson Mentorship Award , about her path from being mentored to becoming an exemplary mentor. Dr. Barnes has inspired SO many people. Lisa, you’re the best! @geronsociety.bsky.social

- Reposted by Bryan D. James, PhDToday my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. - Truly disgusting. I don’t know how anyone can support this. The “It’s just a meme” claim falls short when it’s the president posting it and it will literally lead to deaths, pain, and sadness in an American city. Sadistic fascism.

- US POINTER study showed a significant improvement in global cognition for a structured intervention (physical, social, and cognitive activities, MIND diet, health monitoring) compared to self-guided intervention equivalent to 1-2 years of aging #AAIC2025. Evidence that behavior change can work
- Takeaways from U.S. POINTER top line results: ➡️ Both a structured & a self-guided intervention improved cognition, with the structured group improving even more. ➡️ Cognitive benefits were consistent across age, sex, ethnicity, heart health status and APOE e4 genotype. bit.ly/USPointerRel... #AAIC25
- It could be argued these results are not huge but it is comparing a structured intervention to a self-guided intervention (not an inactive control group) and both groups improved. Were ethical reasons not to, but if trial had compared to inactive controls, effect would likely be massive!
- Hearing from trial participants and how much the lifestyle changes have changed their lives is incredible: “a new lease on life” We always need to hear from the participants! “I did lose something. I lost the title of prediabetic. And 11 inches off my waistline.” 👏👏
