View full threadYes. We also are not comparing to ppl with PhD parents precisely to avoid the “following parents” question. We compare to ppl with parent with a non PhD graduate degree (lawyers, doctors, MBAs, teachers mostly)

- "How do class gaps compare to race and gender gaps? Strikingly, we find that the class gaps in tenure-track academia are as large as or larger than analogous race or gender gaps."
- This is an important control. Even when you take into account research productivity, researchers with parents with a graduate degree have better tenure outcomes than researchers with parents with less than a graduate degree (college or less).
