This enraged me for so many years...when DEI guidelines exist in Europe for aca recruitements, they also never mention class/social background elements
Why are we interested in class at all?
Orgs almost never think about socioeconomic background background when they think about diversity or inclusion...
This chart shows 600 large US firms' DEI goals/reporting in Sep 2024. Almost none mention socioeconomic background. (2/22)
It always really surprises me . This is actually why I started studying this topic, I was at a diversity & inclusion conference for economics academia (which was a great conf!) and was frustrated that no one was talking about socioeconomic background
My own hyp is about history of social movement. DEI gained in importance when/with/because wave of social revendications (feminism, lgbtq+) and associated cause entrepreneurs. At the same time, marxism/class ideas and entrpreneurs were fading away. Aca DEI guidelines are outcome of borh dynamics
