- Coyote Time (letting the player jump a bit after they leave the ground) is huge for gamefeel. Combine with Jump Buffer (executing a jump once they land if they pressed it a bit early) to maximize. Bonus: spawn the jump particle at the last grounded position to hide the coyote time :) #gamedev
- YES! So much yes! Really, it baffles me why not all platformers incorporate this. It's just such a great QoL thing to include It conveys the players intention rather than strict timing. Some games also makes it a little unclear when an edge counts, so both Coyote and buffer jumps are super helpful
- Exactly!! The more a game does to respect player intent when reasonably possible, the more clear it is when a mistake was made, which can help avoid players feeling cheated by the game, even when in reality it's the game cheating in favor of the playerNov 7, 2025 16:22
