Uri Alon
The Alon lab explores design principles of biological circuits, focusing on systems medicine, aging, and healthspan.
- Recommended listening. I was hosted on the podcast “Gil Hameever” to discuss our latest paper about the sudden physiological changes at menopause. The conversation is in Hebrew. open.spotify.com/episode/0EVA...
- We analyzed changes in physiology relative to menopause using two large scale studies that include millions of lab tests. Rather than align by age, we used statistical inference to align tests to final menstrual period. (1/2) arunamed.com/the-menopaus...
- Revealing the dynamical time course of physiological changes before, during and after menopause. This revealed sudden changes at menopause in nearly all physiological systems. (2/2) arxiv.org/abs/2511.05906

- Sweet moment in life, our 25th lab anniversary. In a circle, we looked at each other, a group of people with shared values and a soft approach, who want each other to succeed and be happy. (1/2)

- Excited to share our new study revealing the intricate dynamics of pregnancy & postpartum physiology! We analyzed 40M lab tests from 300K pregnancies and 160K women (cross-sectional) and mapped week-by-week changes starting from preconception to months-long postpartum recovery.

- Theory predicted two kinds of fibrosis, hot and cold. We show in vivo that hot and cold fibrosis describe heart failure, and heart attack, respectively, showing that they are very different disease states. @shovalmiyara.bsky.social @eldadtzahor.bsky.social
- Our work made it to the cover of @cp-cellsystems.bsky.social ! 🥳 Cold and hot fibrosis define clinically distinct cardiac pathologies www.cell.com/cell-systems... Special thanks to Danielle Kimchi for creating this beautiful cover! 🎉 @urialonlab.bsky.social @eldadtzahor.bsky.social

- My brilliant PhD student @Yaelebel.bsky.social gave a talk at the Azrieli Graduate Students forum about her research on using excitable dynamics to explain pulsatile immune phenomena, and how research questions can come from the most unexpected places. Well done Yael! youtu.be/MdwqWx5emo4

- Why do cortisol-lowering drugs work for Cushing’s but fail in mood disorders & chronic stress? We propose that the ability of the pituitary and adrenal glands to adjust their functional masses—normally beneficial—counteracts the drug’s effect. Using a math. model, we screened HPA interventions (1/2)
- and found that only targeting CRH can bypass this adaptation and effectively lower cortisol. (2/2) Work by @tomermilo.bsky.social www.embopress.org/doi/full/10....
