- Somewhere somehow, we need to start from scratch when it comes to media. Powerful owners might sometimes make the right call (e.g. that scene in Spielberg’s THE POST). But often, they won’t. And so the future of news should *never* be at the mercy of the rich, ever. A brand-new start is needed.
- The thing is, billionaires don’t see history when they look at a business. They don’t see pride, culture, value… They don’t see people. They only see numbers. Bezos can rebuild The Washington Post AND still be the billionaire that he is. But to the soulless uber-wealthy, legacy means nothing.
- Farewell to Park City and #Sundance as we know it. I poured A LOT into this piece, from seeing 50 films, to reflecting on the past and the future of the fest & talking to the local artist who painted that Sundance Kid artwork we all walked by. My latest... filmmakermagazine.com/133235-sunda...
- Reposted by Tomris LafflyI've reread this like 3 times. Freed herself from slavery by running away, *went back a week later bc the slaver was talking shit, set his house on fire, and then escaped again is absolutely incredible queen shit
- Look, if you have an office number listed in your signature, and when I call that number, it rings four times and goes to an automated “No one is here to take your call” message with no voicemail option, I have no choice but assume that you work for Jukt Micronics.

- Stop asking me, Gmail. Stop with the reminders that I should turn on smart features. I will never. I am a writer. I don’t need writing assistance from you. I can write on my own. The only beings allowed to touch my writing are my editors, who are human and actual writers. Kindly, fuck off.
- Wanna boycott something? Boycott New York Times. Cancel your subscription. “But there are good journalists working there.” Tough, this is how capitalism works sadly. Let’s not give our hard-earned to news orgs that betray us and refuse to do real reporting.

- I have no words. “Let this sink in” won’t let it sink in. Calling it horrifying & unthinkably evil won’t amplify the truth. In the end, you are either enraged that our president is a rapist & pedophile (& even a murderer), or you aren’t. You’re either decent, or evilly deranged.
- I detest street joggers enough as is for treating the city as their personal track & never respecting anyone. But on days like this, w/ piles of snow & little sidewalk space to negotiate? The feeling is rage. Yes, I’ll step aside so you can run. JUST GO TO THE PARK, goodness.
- Rapist pedo president.
- I know everyone got there already, but truly….if someone from Home Alone 2 had to pass away, WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE CATHERINE O’HARA? 😔
- Still thinking about this one interaction in Sundance. We were a little crammed moving in an Eccles aisle, & the dude behind me kept saying sorry for the physical closeness WHILE holding my shoulders. I turned in anger, he let go, kept saying sorry but then held my arms. I faced >
- I can’t believe this… 🥺
- This shutdown day is frustrating—not b/c it’s happening, but b/c it isn’t really happening. Just like everything else in the US, it’s left to individual responsibility: don’t buy, don’t order etc. The only businesses I see participating are small ones like arthouse cinemas. No big business that 1/2
- Why are critics/pubs seeing MELANIA? Especially via paying for a ticket out of pocket? Why are you legitimizing this release with a review? Spend that money on charity, & your time on something actually productive, like organizing your sock drawer or reading an old phone book.
- My photo app informs me that on this day in 2020, I was at the #Sundance puppy lounge. ♥️🐶
- My #Sundance host B* = the GOAT. Been staying w/ her forever. She charged me sooo little (which made the fest possible for me), filled my studio w/ free snacks, always left a plush robe for me knowing I wore one while writing. Our final exchange today. I’ll miss this wonderful Utah lady.
- Reposted by Tomris LafflyI wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free

- BREAKING Greg Bovino has been removed as Border Patrol "commander at large" and will return to El Centro Calif, where he is expected to retire soon. A stunning turnaround after Pretti killing. Bovino's traveling blue city crackdown is over www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...
- Reposted by Tomris LafflyThe President of the United States appears to have begun a journey toward deciding that federal thugs murdering innocent people does not make the great TV he assumed it would. I wish we did not live in a world in which this counts as encouraging news, but it does.
- At a film festival, real world can seem far away, but I did watch that full video before going to sleep last night/early morning after catching up with the news late and if we don’t shut every fucking thing down now, nothing will change. Everything should stop, everything. Total economic shutdown.
- Reposted by Tomris LafflyNo. They do not "appear to" contradict it. They contradict it.
- Reposted by Tomris LafflyKare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti. "Please get the truth out about our son."

- Today, I watched movies about sexual assault, murder, marital strife, and demonic possessions. Going to bed with warm and fuzzy feelings, yay. #Sundance
- Beth de Araűjo’s JOSEPHINE is phenomenal, soul-shattering work. I can’t really post anything else about it right now. I almost passed out crying and shaking during the first 10 minutes. #Sundance

- You simply had to be there. THOSE WERE THE DAYS. ♥️ (cc: @katerbland.bsky.social) #AbracaDeborah
- Let’s start a thread for my #Sundance work, shall we? Walking around the snowless Park City is eerie enough. Then you see Abby Ellis’ THE LAKE (EP’d by Leonardo DiCaprio), on the collapse of the Great Salt Lake, and it feels like an emergency. My review. variety.com/2026/film/re...
- Having a great #Sundance so far. At my first screening, several ppl were on their phones—2 got yelled at by me. Next to me, someone picked their nose, played with it & flicked it on the floor— hopefully I missed the target. Elsewhere around me, someone had horrendous garlic breath. CINEMA!!! 😬
- An annoying thing I do with my parents after Oscar nominations is texting them, “SEEEEEE I TOLD YOU TO WATCH XYZ..” 🫢 In fairness mom watched & loved ONE BATTLE and BUGONIA. But for the life of me, I couldn’t convince dad to go see F1, perhaps the most dad movie in recent history.

- I was at a party & some normie who sees maybe 5 films/yr said, “Ugh you’re a film critic? Bad profession rn because movies are so bad.” I moved away from him fast. But anyway, if you look at this & go, “movies nowadays are bad,” you’re possibly just…stupid & have no use for culture in your life.
- Reposted by Tomris LafflyThis lineup is exactly what the Academy votership overhaul several years ago was going for: More room for genre. A year when the huge, popular movie with the black cast ISN'T the surprise "Oops" omission. And a more international look--nineteen nominations for foreign films this year.
- When the dust settles, let us all acknowledge that as great as most of these nominations are, today’s real tragedy is zero noms for NO OTHER CHOICE. It is one of the year’s best movies. And a high point in Park Chan-wook’s already incredible career. We don’t deserve him. #Oscars
- Dear Americans. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO STUDY UP THE PRONOUNCIATION OF EXPECTED NAMES IN ADVANCE?!?!!!! Especially in such an international year? Embarrassing. #Oscars
- Amy Redford honoring her father Robert Redford’s words, “Everyone has a story,” which is this year’s theme. ♥️🙏🏼 #Sundance
- Felt a sadness when we landed at SLC, thinking that this is the final Sundance that will be taking place in Park City. Then again, I know that this is hardly my final visit to Utah. From the state’s Mighty Five national parks, I have only been to two. I’ll definitely be back. ♥️
- Now I’ve seen it all. Bought a bag of pretzels at the airport. You scan your card at exit, your item gets automatically scanned. But I got charged $17. Complained. The explanation? That’s just the holding charge. The $ will go back to your account. How did we mess EVERYTHING up?
- Kaitlyn Dever and Renate Reinsve should play sisters in something.
- Imagine having any interest in the Melania movie. 🤢
- Trump was literally like, “I am going to destroy everything if I’m elected.” That was the basis of his campaign. So…no empathy from me for Trumpians who’re now like, “Whoa I did not realize he was going to destroy everything.”

- Good morning, this is a real thing. 🤦🏻♀️
- I bet this MAD MEN episode has no idea this is also like film criticism circa 2020s. (And the rates aren’t too dissimilar either.) Depressing.
- One of the many Valentino red carpet moments I will never forget… Goodbye to a GOAT…
