Between Lorwyn/Shadowmoor and Lorwyn Eclipsed, there's a ton of direct card references (Figure, Bitterblossom), mechanical rhyming (Vivid, Behold), or just iterated reuse (Evoke Mythics) but the part that interests me most out of all of it is how Storytelling has changed in 18 years.
Jan 26, 2026 17:50There's a pair of pieces that most largely shape changes over decades. First is the scope/size of our visits, and the second is the evolution of story telling both within the cards (the different ways Ravnica explored its stories over the 4 major visits) and without (books to comics to web fiction)
Original Lorwyn is 4 sets of world exploration, focusing on the shift between Lorwyn/Shadowmoor, as well as the ways it differs greatly from other settings. We have characters, but not a story the cards tell like we'd see modernly.
This scope does a lot to make older sets memorable as settings imo.
