#SaveQueerStories
Our independent study of over 350 TV shows found that queer-inclusive series are canceled at a disproportionate rate. Our campaign calls for diverse stories and LGBTQ+ representation. Read the data and learn more on our carrd!

- This is a great little bit of investigation! Our data reflects the same - despite comparable cost and viewership, queer shows just don’t get as much of a chance. Boots had the numbers and the buzz. Thank you @bernardosim.com ! #SaveQueerStories
- Stories like these are why representation is so important. It's wonderful that people are feeling seen and spoken to, and that some folks are feeling inspired to come out because of this show. So glad that it's been renewed! #SaveQueerStories
- Statistically not a surprise, but after the buzz this show generated, I gotta say I wasn't betting on a cancellation! #SaveQueerStories
- Reposted by #SaveQueerStoriesI don't think Netflix should get to eat anything else until it finishes all the prematurely cancelled shows on its plate
- It’s almost as though queer shows are popular and in demand by viewers! #SaveQueerStories

- If I had to speculate, I’d guess the increase in the number of queer characters, paired with the increased rate of their removal this year, reflects early capitulation to anti-LGBTQ political interests by media companies.
- It’s equal parts validating and disappointing to see GLAAD’s data align so closely with our own study’s. We hope our data can provide a comparison between how this trend functions for queer inclusion vs average. These numbers on their own are upsetting. In context, even more so. #SaveQueerStories
- It seems that queer characters are vanishing in groups. Shows with prominent representation often have more than one queer character (some shows, like Our Flag and Heartstopper, have 4 or more). When an inclusive show is canceled, we lose a LOT of representation at once. #SaveQueerStories
- Reposted by #SaveQueerStories41% of LGBTQ+ TV characters not returning in 2026, according to GLAAD's latest Where We Are on TV report newsisout.com/2025/11/41-o...
- GLAAD’s “Where We Are On TV” report is out! We’ll be sharing out the data shortly, but the numbers are not looking good. #SaveQueerStories
- Way back in the pause before this announcement, I said that if Doctor Who and Heartstopper (two cultural juggernauts) were to be canceled, it would be a very grim sign of things to come. Both of these shows have now been reshuffled and defunded. This is de facto censorship. #SaveQueerStories

- They will continue to make lists like these and they will continue to be dominated by shows with prominent queer representation. Our shows deserve proper endings. #SaveQueerStories

- Thank you @bjcolangelo.bsky.social for this article! Queer-inclusive shows like Dead End were already struggling for support, lacking promotion and getting canceled early and more often. We need these narratives and should be supporting them now!
- Reposted by #SaveQueerStories1. Led by Elon Musk, the far-right has exploded in a campaign to get Netflix to remove shows with queer and trans characters. If Netflix capitulates to their demands, an already strained market for LGBTQ+ animators might become even more dire. Subscribe to support our journalism.
- Our review of cancellations and renewals for 2025 will begin next month!

- FIVE of the shows on this list are represented in our partnering fandoms. Our Flag Means Death, The Wheel of Time, The Acolyte, My Lady Jane, and Shadow and Bone. There seems to be a pattern. #SaveQueerStories

- Power speaks about media representation the same way it speaks about education, and that's because both have a similar capability of making a more connected, informed, diverse, and empathetic citizenry. All progress is decried as going too far + being too much, even though it never goes far enough.
- Isn’t annoying when petty stuff like “real life” gets in the way of the important things like “doing math about gay TV shows”?

- Reposted by #SaveQueerStories“banning pornography” is bad on its own but it is imperative that everyone understand that these people consider the very existence of queer people to be pornographic they consider the most chaste depiction of a queer relationship, or an openly trans person, to be porn and they want it banned
- The author disabled quotes. You don’t have to like, approve of, or engage with porn and nsfw work to see how right wing extremists are using fear and stigma around smut to ban queer people from public life, define “good” sex as only between married people for procreation, and otherwise further force white supremacy on everyone
- All forms of anti-LGBTQ+ censorship are connected by the explicit goal of isolating queer people from others in society. I'm glad Amy chose to speak up.
- This is an incredible and thorough resource, thank you @thetransfemininereview.com! Desperately infuriating that we need it.
- We did a quick scan of this list and found some interesting data! To sum up, queer-inclusive shows tenaciously continue to gather views even as other hit shows decline in viewership. 🧵

- It's important to take time to celebrate the wins, too!
- Art is one of the best ways we can connect with others and express our values. Exposure to diverse viewpoints is proven to help us understand and care for people who are different from us. That's why we're tracking queer-inclusive cancellations specifically. It's a small thing, but art has power.
- The cancellation of Colbert could not be a more stark example of the ways our media is restricted by those in power based on their personal agendas. Democracy cannot thrive with censorship. Our media needs to commit to keeping inclusive voices on air.
- Our partnering fandoms continue to show up in Best Of lists a year+ after their cancellations. They are subjects of essays about the importance of diversity and queer storytelling. Inclusive media matters, but it’s also popular and in-demand. Speak up for queer representation! #SaveQueerStories

- Though the reason hasn’t been announced, it’s hard not to read the cancellation of Queer Eye as a bad omen in our current political climate. The compassion, positivity, and inclusion the show stands for are sorely needed. #SaveQueerStories
- As we wait for GLAAD’s Where We Are on TV report, we’ve been dabbling in viewership numbers.
- As more bad news rolls in, please remember to take care of yourself. Be angry, take action, but don’t break yourself. We need every last one of us.
- It’s so tough to compare viewing data between shows. Some drop an entire season at once, in two parts, or weekly. Nielsen data may not match what’s reported by streamers for lots of reasons, obscuring accuracy. Viewing data alone isn’t a reliable indicator of a show’s success or odds of renewal.
