Save Aberdeen Libraries
Campaigning against closure and reduced access to Aberdeen’s public libraries. To help contact saveaberdeenlibs@gmail.com
- A couple of us are heading to Edinburgh on Wednesday for this. Please write to your MSPs and ask them to show up. @slipshodspeller.bsky.social will be representing us at the lunchtime MSP Meet & Greet.
- 🚨 Big news! Mark Ruskell MSP has secured a Save Local Libraries debate in the Scottish Parliament on Feb 5 at 5 p.m. Write to your MSPs to urge them to attend the debate and a meet-and-greet from 1-2 p.m. in Committee Room 5: www.writetothem.com Let’s protect libraries across Scotland! 📚
- For those who have a bottomless mug of coffee handy, you can see the 'Family Support Model Implementation Plan' @slipshodspeller.bsky.social refers to in his article in the agenda for the Communities, Housing & Public Protection committee meeting here: committees.aberdeencity.gov.uk/ieListDocume...
- "Where do we go from here? Library campaigners' trust in public officials and elected representatives is at an all-time low...Proper accountability and clear communication would certainly be good starting points. Sadly these qualities are in short supply." - @slipshodspeller.bsky.social in the P&J
- Unfortunately, the Press & Journal haven't published the column online. Still, you can read Hayden's column about the lack of accountability and how the next steps of the future of our city's library services have been buried in a jargon-filled 400-page document by accessing the paper via a library.
- It’s worth picking up a copy of the Press & Journal tomorrow as @slipshodspeller.bsky.social has written a column commenting on the most recent update of Aberdeen City Council’s plans for library services in Aberdeen - which are concerningly baffling to understand.
- It is imperative that no library is closed. Not only are many of these libraries in locations with little public transport, but some are the only community space anyone from the public can access and use. Not to mention we need to address falling literacy levels. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
- Great to see residents of Cardonald coming out to demand answers to why Glasgow Life still haven’t reopened their library. www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/scottis...
- We have been contacted by people from all over Scotlanf over the weekend. Several of our SAL founders are looking to connect with library campaigners across Scotland. If you want to fight for Scotland’s public libraries join us: www.facebook.com/groups/frien...
- We have also had word from Aberdeenshire campaigners that people are gathering at New Pitsligo Library at 6 pm tomorrow (Tuesday 19th November).
- Our friends at Save our Libraries - Moray are heading out in the snow to Elgin Library tonight. Anyone wanting to campaign for the Moray libraries should head there for 6.20 pm. #LibrariesAreEssential
- Moving from the platform that was formerly known as Twitter to here!
