- "How a major national newspaper will carry on without someone on staff to summarize the plots of midlist literary novels is beyond me" Good piece and sobering sign of our times. On the plus side, guest speaker on literary cruises is one of my life goals.

- Shocking story! Gamebird licence refused, gamebirds released anyway, consequences minimal. “all my Days shooting had been sold ... and the pheasant and partridge poults ordered ... Without a licence I’m going to be in a very embarrasing situation”. Er, get the licence before selling the Days?

- A great short (11 min) film about the wonderful Salmon Run, a crazy event combining running, art, science and lots of fun to share the impressive journey of the endangered Atlantic salmon from sea to spawning ground. I'm looking forward to Salmon Run 2026 on 19 September. Book your place!

- Great idea! Mike Berners-Lee is knowledgeable and articulate, he would make an ideal guest. @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social and @rory-stewart.bsky.social, hope you will consider.
- @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social & @rory-stewart.bsky.social unfortunately couldn’t make the National Emergency Briefing. Would they consider having @mikebernerslee.bsky.social on #Leading?🙏 Mike chaired the NEB and sets out the threats - and the choices ahead - with exceptional clarity. #NEB2025
- @wealdactiongroup.bsky.social is considering legal action over methane emissions from onshore oil & gas sites. We've written to DESNZ and the Environment Agency. Depending on their response, we may bring a claim for judicial review. Read more ⬇️ www.wealdactiongroup.org.uk/2026/01/new-...

- Hooray! Oil cos abandon plans to produce oil at Biscathorpe. Because of the tax regime and the “lack of clear case law post-Finch”, they say. Really it's because they can no longer get away with obfuscating about their climate impact. Waddock Cross next? @sosbiscathorpe.bsky.social

- Nooooo! Don't scrap the Finch ruling! Keir Starmer may see them as part of “unnecessary red-tape, well-intentioned, but fundamentally misguided, environmental regulations” but the Finch ruling, Habitats Regulations, biodiversity net gain, etc, are vital protections for our planet and for nature.

- For a major oil and gas-producing nation, a G7 member, and a country with significant historical responsibility for driving the climate crisis, ending oil & gas exploration is a significant decision. Now the govt needs to follow through by refusing consent for Rosebank.
- There's a lot to like about @zackpolanski.bsky.social. The politics of course, but also that he comes over as a genuine thoughtful person. "Even when things are pretty bleak politically, all our times on Earth are short and we should enjoy every moment while doing the best we can."

- This article is really good. Both on how the planning system is near impossible for communities to navigate and regulation lacking – and on the strength of communities coming together to fight oil & gas projects. Good luck to the Foxholes locals. We also have an Egdon application in Dorset.
- 🚨 Half the UK’s top 10 fish stocks are being overexploited, new research shows! Overfishing is emptying our seas of life, and it's a political choice 🐟 So I’m joining @oceanauk.bsky.social in calling on the Prime Minister to end overfishing in UK waters. Join us! 📩 act.oceana.org/page/178303/...
- Press release from @wealdactiongroup.bsky.social on our response to the Rosebank consultation. ⬇️ I feel moderately optimistic that the gov't won't be able to approve this climate-wrecking project a second time. There are many flaws in Equinor's statement on downstream scope 3 emissions.

- Hello @scientistsforxr.earth I hope you all know that the government is shortly to decide whether to scrap or greenlight Rosebank - the UK's biggest undeveloped oil field. There's a consultation open now. Please have your say BY WEDNESDAY actionnetwork.org/forms/the-go... Please share!
- But we still have to try! If the UK govt said no to Rosebank and left our fossil fuels in the ground, this would set a new norm inspiring other countries to follow. Consultation on Rosebank open now. I hope you've had your say @profbillmcguire.bsky.social ? actionnetwork.org/forms/the-go...
