- It's not actually mandatory to be either working in a Nordic country or indeed in Nordic meteorology (I'll be presenting Antarctic climate work), so if you would like to hang out with the cool kids on a very weather beaten group of islands and talk about weather and climate for a few days...
- Calling all Nordic meteorologists: Nordic Meteorology Meeting #NMM26 will be held for first time ever in Faroe Islands. They have negotiated some good transport deals + reductions for ECRs. It's a fun crowd and some nice excursions. Come + join us www.greengate.fo/events/nordi... 🧪⚒️⛏️🥼

- My experience of working on #Antarctic climate and weather with Ukrainian colleagues is very much this. I am genuinely in awe and extremely humbled by their dedication and sheer hard work under extremely difficult conditions. It's a lesson to us all.
- So, #ClimateSky, solve an argument between co-authors: When writing a paper specificalyy using outputs from #CMIP6 models, do you prefer to use GCM or ESM as descriptor? #GlobalClimateModel #EarthSystemModel
- Secondarily: why aren't there poll options on BSky yet?
- Yes yes I know I'm in Antarctica and it is cool and all, but, *Natural ice skating* in Denmark! Enjoy it all you lucky devils, heaven only knows when the possibility will come round again... www.dr.dk/nyheder/indl...
- A common effort between 23 different local authorities* in Denmark to develop FOSS alternatives to big US tech in Danish schools. I am here for this Ja, tak 🙏 *But not apparently my local authority... www.os2.eu/OS2skole
- Absolutely gorgeous essayWorth a read (via @drnoble@mastodon.scot) by @tg that starts with why RSS clients look like email, but moves into SoMe and how we imported anxiety without cause. Via @kottke www.terrygodier.com/phantom-obli... #design #ui #rss
- The article points out that a single year of this budget could convert pretty much the entire system to a #FOSS or at least #OpenSource solution and would save a considerable amount in the long run. As well as building skills, jobs and #digitalSovereignty #dkpol
- DKK 60 million on Microsoft and Google software licences *every year* paid Danish state schools. And imagine how much government IT is paying on top. It's time to start calling it the #MicrosoftTax HT@cryptohagen@social.data.coop ing.dk/artikel/her-...

- This is particularly annoying because after converting my kid's laptop to Linux with #EndOfTen, school WiFi certificates would not allow connection so we had to switch back to Microsoft to allow school work submissions 🤬 #MicrosoftTax.
- Difference between here + mastodon (roughly same number of followers), here 10 likes. There, 45 reposts, 46 favourites and replies with startlingly beautiful marine life. There is a community flavour there not here yet(?) Dunno what this proves, maybe if you want a community, build it yourself?
- For, reasons, I find myself looking up serpulids on Wikipedia and look at this beauty. The name Christmas tree worm doesn't really do it justice. Not for the first time I wonder if I should have pursued marine biology as a specialism... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpuli...
