- Any historians out there who’ve been paid for consultancy work relating to your academic knowledge? I’ve been offered an interesting opportunity, but (being a stuffy academic) I’ve literally no idea what rate to charge…
- Biggest change since I was here for undergrad: student halls are empty. 20 years ago, you wouldn’t be able to get a seat unless you turned up on time (especially after Neighbours). Now it’s quiet, no lines, no hustle and bustle. Where IS everyone..?
- Enjoyed talking about the @ecrpodcasters.bsky.social as part of the @kent.ac.uk researcher workshop on podcasting. *Almost* feels like spring outside
- Reposted by Charlie RozierHere are 8 successful *proposals* for academic books/monographs. I am hoping that these help someone who is starting out trying to write one and wants to see what worked for me. They are provided as examples, rather than exemplars. - Reposted by Charlie RozierGreat advice. Mine is this: all good abstracts do the following 1. Background (who what when where) 2. Problem — what's the hole your research addresses? 3. Argument/Hypothesis 4. Evidence — on what basis are you making the argument? 5. Answer the "so what" question — why does this matter? to whom?

- Wasn’t sure what to make of this, even when I’d finished it. A strange story of Fenland nuns in 990. Ostensibly about a cursed mere (body of water) but for me it became about relations between women, and by the end of called it Mère (about mothers and female authority)
