It is to enable faster acceleration which reduces travel time and thereby increases frequency without adding operating cost. That then attracts more riders and thereby more revenue.

- This is a pretty clever tactic if you want to create a more violent police force. The more you assault your potential officers the more likely you are to have a police force that will perpetuate that culture of assault in the line of duty, throughout their careers.
