- Reposted by Rebecca PompanoThis is extremely bad: “expect placement by political appointees.” This is Lysenkoism, politics controlling science, and we know how it ends: with the death of science. “For successful science, reality must take precedence over politics, for Nature cannot be fooled.”

- It seems that only the science community is noticing that NIH and NSF budgets are cut 40% and 55% in the budget bill, respectively. If you live in Maine, West Va, Pennsylvania, Alabama, or Louisiana, CALL YOUR SENATOR as they could make a difference. See below. prospect.org/politics/202...

- Reposted by Rebecca PompanoI do wish big-time media orgs would stop taking the bait of calling these cuts to "Brown" or "Harvard." These are cuts to alzheimers research, maternal health research, antiviral coronavirus innovations, not "insert school here." They are cuts to our medical future and scientific livelihood.

- Reposted by Rebecca PompanoWe were just notified that our contract to UCSD and Scripps Research to support wastewater surveillance in San Diego (searchcovid.info) was terminated immediately for the same reasons 👇. That means no more genomic wastewater surveillance, and our proposed extensions to measles, Hep A, others, gone.
- Just as our new Public Health Lab - which was built on key lessons learned during COVID - was set to open, the necessary funding for its operation was just pulled by DOGE/HHS. That operation, critical to safety and public health in San Diego. Gone. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/04/04/s...

- Congrats @jennhammel.bsky.social and Jenny Munson on this great work! This model of the human lymph node stroma under fluid flow is super interesting and will be useful to answer many future questions. Always a pleasure to collaborate with you. #immunoengineering #LymphNodes #3Dculture

They could be held in civil contempt of court, which can include jail time and can’t be undone with a presidential pardon, according to @sbagen.bsky.social . Your food is safer -- and we get alerts when it isn't -- because of USDA. You hear about earthquakes *worldwide* because of USGS.

- Make some noise about this. Call your senators and house rep. And if you know anyone in media, let them know that NIH reviews are stopped again due to the federal register issue.
