Yeh, I had a bit of trouble translating this. In germany we have Die Linke (the left party) and other groups that are Communist, Marxist or any variation of left values. Then we have the SPD (social democrats). They are not super problemtic or anything but they often lean towards the middle/base.

This historically gave (and still gives) the leftistist partys the idea of often labeling them as traitors (sometimes also as a joke) because the SPD states it supports the workers interests but often fails in doing so in a meaningful way.

Lastly, as twitter still was usable, I- or maybe it was my wife- labled Stede as a Juso (the young social democrats). And compared zo the other far-left parties the Jusos are perfect for the ofmd-metaphor of Stede claiming "I'm a pirate!" Whilst being surrounded by actual pirates. So uh.. yeah.

And obviously everyone but facsists can be Antifa ahhhh sorry for the endless post 😨

I got you. There's a lot of cultural context that I now understand. That's quite different from democratic socialism in Canada.
