Dave, do you actually cancel people and musical acts? How is doing so the act of an intellectual?

This “I'm so repelled or upset by something I stay away spontaneously, tho not as policy” is how I feel about it. I can continue to rate (or like) the art while the context has changed completely — eg would still put MIA on a 00s list but the general schema of what “MIA” means in my mind has changed
Feb 4, 2026 03:58I think there are a lot of things that change schemas in a similar way and “cancellation” isn’t more unique or even destructive than other changes are per se, but it does have an effect that is often impossible to ignore
