- Yes I used to correct that all the time! Then we had AOGCMs too.. At least regional climate models have bene consistent..
- But in general I'd use ESM instead of GCM for models that at least have to have a carbon cycle. On the other hand, do we many of the CMIP6 models actually not have carbon?

- Not satisfying though. The Earth System is more than just the carbon cycle. Interactive atmospheric composition, ice sheets, dynamic vegetation, etc. Lots of CMIP6 runs had the latter, but no carbon cycle turned on. I'd argue that ESM is basically anything above the basic AOGCM.
