- napari 0.6.6 is out! 🚀 This is a bugfix release following up 0.6.5: if something in your napari workflow unexplicably broke, you might want to update ;) Also, with the new bundle you can now "open files with > napari"! Check out the full release notes on the website: napari.org/stable/relea...
- Join the new plugin sustainability initiative! Everyone is invited to fill out this interest form: forms.gle/iwX6P4tuooHK... Follow along with initial discussion on Zulip: napari.zulipchat.com#narrow/chann... The first zoom meeting will be this coming week: napari.org/stable/commu...
- Current goals: 1. Centralizing community resources to foster collaborative development. 2. Create an initiative to encourage best practices and highlight plugins. 3. Improve the plugin development infrastructure. 4. Create tooling to evaluate plugin health and support sustainable maintenance.
- This initiative is born out of an URSSI Early-Career Fellowship awarded to @timmonko.bsky.social, and we thank them for their support! urssi.us/blog/2025/09...
- napari 0.6.5 is out! 🚀 Rapid-fire highlights are: colorbar overlay, custom startup script, and better and prettier documentation! Check out the full release notes here: napari.org/dev/release/...
- Check out the cool new “release highlights history” page @timmonko.bsky.social cooked up for us! 😍 napari.org/stable/relea... Best of all: it’s automatically generated from release notes so it’ll always stay up to date.
- 🚀 napari 0.6.4 is out! Highlights from this bite-sized release: launching scripts from the command line with `napari <path-to-script>` and making the console auto-focus when opened. We’ll be announcing all future napari releases here, so stay tuned! 🔗 Release notes: napari.org/stable/relea...
- 🚀 Big news! The napari hub has been reimplemented and is now community-run! 🎉 It's still the go-to place for finding and sharing napari plugins, but the website is now snappier and lighter-weight. Check it out 👉 www.napari-hub.org
-
View full threadThe plugin listing is updated four times a day, so you shouldn't have to wait long to see your new plugin🧩. And (it goes without saying), it's open-source! If you notice any errors with your plugin's information, please open an issue on the GitHub repo: github.com/napari/hub-lite.
- This marks a huge milestone towards long-term sustainability for napari and its plugin ecosystem — and we’re just getting started. Over the next few months we'll be updating the visual design, adding more searching and filtering options, re-enabling Zulip updates, and so much more!
- We’ve taken over development and maintenance, using the visual design of the original -- thank you to the CZI team for building and maintaining the hub over the last four years, and to Yunha Lee for creating the prototype of the new site.
- The hub is now deployed statically via gh-pages, using data stored and served via npe2api🧑💻🌐. Not only is this a simpler and more lightweight implementation to maintain, but it's significantly faster too🔥!
- 🚀The napari team is excited to announce our brand new development roadmap — a community-informed vision for the future of napari! 🔍Read the blog to learn about our process and priorities: napari.org/island-dispa... 🗺️OR check out the roadmap itself on napari.org: napari.org/stable/roadm...
- Reminder: the @globias.bsky.social 2025 symposium is happening Oct 26-31 in Kobe, Japan, and, on top of many other cool bioimage analysis events, several members of the napari core team will be leading a napari hackathon. 🧑💻👩💻👨💻 Registration deadline is Jun 15! www.globias.org/activities/b...
- Ok guys **nobody open any more issues** 😂
- Contributing to open source can be scary, but don't worry! We ourselves often write code where the initial implementation is not the best, but we are here to help simplify life. Want to know more about contributing or have anything else napari you want to discuss come join our community meeting!
- It will be Wednesday the 21st at 5:30PM CET | 8:30am PST. Here are the details: Agenda: hackmd.io/BXWDZ3i8Q6OA... Zoom link: numfocus-org.zoom.us/j/8404893043... Oh yeah and there will be an update to multichannel grid mode too!
- Reminder: if you go to the GloBIAS conference we can help you contribute to napari at the hackathon! A bunch of the team will be there! (Great thanks to the GloBIAS team for accommodating us!!!) More details on the conference website.
- Deadlines extended - you can still register for the GloBIAS conference! We have extended most deadlines. Please check our webpage: tinyurl.com/mr3kx5a5! Looking forward to welcoming you to Kobe, for training, developing and discussing a broad range of BIA topics!
- Any naparistas going to @globias.bsky.social 2025 in Kobe, Japan? Thanks to the GloBIAS organisers 🙏, we will be hosting a napari hackathon in parallel to the FAIR workflows hackathon! More info on our Zulip: napari.zulipchat.com#narrow/chann... Official site: www.globias.org/activities/b...
- Like what you see? Our own Lorenzo Gaifas is working on multichannel grid mode which is to replace our current grid mode. If you want to come discuss this or other things, join us at the community meeting tomorrow May 7th, 5:30PM CET | 8:30AM PDT at lnkd.in/gDmtK2JQ. Agenda here: lnkd.in/gna9YF8u
- And it's finally here! napari 0.6.0 is out on PyPI and conda-forge! 🥳 We've had a few threads about this release already but let's recap with some highlights: 🧵

-
View full threadThere's lots more in the release, and lots more to come! Check the release notes here: napari.org/stable/relea... If you have any issues, or just want to show off your use case: we love to hear about it! Our open chat room: napari.zulipchat.com/login/ And meeting calendar: napari.org/stable/commu...
- As a final treat, here's a video of napari 0.6.0 browsing a gorgeous 88Mp image from @noirlabastro.bsky.social (noirlab.edu/public/image...)
- Axis praxis! You can now point the depth, vertical, and horizontal axes any which way! We've fixed the handedness of the 3D view — DNA helices are again right-handed 😅, and if you have map data you can make latitude point north. Check out our new guide! napari.org/stable/guide...
- @czaki-pl.bsky.social has made huge improvements to the Shapes layer, supported by a grant to the Spatial Data team by @cziscience.bsky.social. We've launched a *fast* triangulation library written in Rust (called bermuda 😉), making Shapes up to 200x faster! Read more: napari.org/stable/guide...
- 0.6.0 features @liu-hanjin.bsky.social's command palette. It exposes all commands registered with the napari app-model (app-model.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) — including plugin commands! We now go to an exciting new phase for napari plugins — see discussion at github.com/napari/napar... for a teaser!
- napari 0.6.0rc0 is out! Barring any crazy bugs 🐛, 🙏 napari 0.6.0 should be out in a week, Apr 30.

View full threadDid you notice that cool new camera parameters menu? That and other right-click menus are easier to discover thanks to new core dev (!) @timmonko.bsky.social — check the little indicators! *And*, check the cute new canvas dimensionality toggle! And did you notice view angle is preserved now? 😉😍
- There's still a couple of PRs that we hope to land this weekend before the final release/candidate. Check the release notes for the full story! napari.org/0.6.0/releas... If you have any feedback, as always, raise issues on GH, or come chat with us on our Zulip chat room! napari.zulipchat.com
- Thanks to @liu-hanjin.bsky.social, napari now has a command palette! 🎨 This thing is really nice to use — the core team can no longer live without it — and it even works with plugin commands! 🤩
- What do structural biologists and atmospheric scientists have in common? They care which way their axes point! In napari 0.6.0, we finally default to a right-handed reference frame in 3D. But don't panic, we also let you customise axes directions from the API, UI, or startup preferences!
