- I don't have a great theory. We included smaller developments which might matter some but not sure that theory fits with the traffic finding. Maybe @katherineeinst.bsky.social or @maxwellpalmer.com have ideas?
- I think we see schools mentioned more around large developments, especially affordable housing developments. Since we included every multi family development in our sample, that might affect our results.
- Also, for traffic, I think in the Boston area traffic comes up in every conversation, regardless of topic.Mar 13, 2025 21:24
- I think people at these meetings are also strategic and choose objections that they think are most likely to persuade decision-makers. Complaints about traffic lead to traffic studies. Concerns about flooding/environment may trigger environmental studies/regs.
- Raising concerns about potential new schoolchildren, in contrast, may be less socially acceptable, especially in liberal MA communities.
