The *Labour* government and Jaqui Smith in particular should be ashamed of themselves and shamed into doing something. Deplorable.

Abolish the OfS, the metastisising cancer of English HE.
- It also has an effect on international solidarity efforts. I'm in the UK and I've paid for filament and shipping. I know many friends here and in other countries have done the same too. The fight against ICE is a global fight.

- Thinking of @contrapoints.bsky.social latest video when she says that conspiracy theories get the feeling right, but the facts wrong. Also @naomiaklein.bsky.social in Doppelganger: there is a difference between a system working as intended, and and a secret nefarious cabal pulling the strings.

I spent a lot of time with friends there after extracurriculars. News of his abduction completely broke my heart. I’m glad he’s home. #Comics4Liam
- Friends, we're thrilled to announce #Comics4Liam to encourage artists to draw pictures for Liam Conejo Ramos and share links to help Liam's family and other immigrants persecuted by ICE! Check out comics4liam.com and please do feel free to pitch in! Images by the great @trungles.com!

- BREAKING: Free AI training will be offered to every adult in the UK, with short courses to teach people how to use simple AI tools effectively in the workplace. Technology Secretary Liz Kendall tells #BBCBreakfast about the scheme
- If you build a business model that relies on income from international students, then you go ahead and drastically slash that source of income, then surely you want that business to fail. Right? I can't help but see this as another deliberate attack on education.
- UK institutions suffered a record fall in international student numbers last year, with significant drops in enrolments from India, China and Nigeria at some universities #highered #Edusky ow.ly/aesG50Y4hh0
- You know what every adult in the UK needs? Media literacy. But we've spent decades defunding the humanities and ridiculing Media Studies degrees hallucinating robots it is.

- UK Academia right now: 1- Being told to make our courses more generic and 'less aligned' with our expertise. 2- Compelled to incorporate AI into our teaching design and delivery. 3- Widespread redundancy. And now this. If they could replace us all with AI, they would.

- Reposted by Maria W. NorrisThe government’s suggestion that rolling out 20 minute courses on writing “AI“ prompts, sponsored by Google, Microsoft and Amazon, is somehow comparable to the founding of the Open University (the Wilson government‘s, & Jennie Lee’s, proudest achievement), is an insult to our human intelligence.
- Reposted by Maria W. NorrisTraining courses on how to write prompts for AI are not training courses. You can learn nearly everything you need to learn about writing a prompt in 2 minutes & by trying it. The AI ‘training courses‘ the govt. is rolling out are just advertising.

- That's how fascism works. It denies reality while forcing you to live in that denial. As E. E. Schattschneider argued: ' the definition of the alternatives is the supreme instrument of power'.
- I will say this until I am blue in the face: both the US and the UK have tried to criminalise protest and dissent for years under the guise of countering terrorism. This is the end game of the National Security State.
- Further adding to the depravity, this was the first comment on the tweet by reporter Kaitlan Collins.
- I'm a terrorism scholar and this is exactly what we warn about when we say terrorism functions as a shibboleth, a password, a magic word which unlocks unprecedented state power and in turn excuses any state action.
- We do not get to where we are today without the War on Terror. Everything that ICE is doing, the war in Venezuela, everything is being justified using the language of terrorism.

- Fascism is inherently absurd. It denies reality and reason and then forces you to live in that denial.
- Reposted by Maria W. NorrisIn 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing. You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics. That is all.
