- Looking forward to attending my first @thebsls.bsky.social conference this Spring! Still on my Gothic dementia and eldercare thing.
- Reposted by Laura KremmelIan McKellen performs “The Strangers’ Case” speech from “Sir Thomas More” on Colbert.
- Suggestions to replace Headspace (but don't use AI)? I really miss it in the dark days of winter?
- More snow today, and I am slowly losing the will to live... so, of course, I'm watching Schitt's Creek for comfort. Thanks, Catherine. 💔

- Just learned that @officialpanera.bsky.social was involved in a major security breach: names, emails, phone, address, all of it. I have just deleted my account. They have not alerted customers.

- Reposted by Laura KremmelI don’t want to hear anything from an elected official unless it’s a plan to defund the DHS and impeach Noem, Bovino, etc. No texts. No emails. No talk about the economy. Step up or step off.

- Reposted by Laura KremmelThis is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.
- First day stack! 4 classes but only 2 preps, so it's smaller than usual.

- Reposted by Laura KremmelGetting an academic job following our PhDs is looking scarily slim right now in the UK. So, in the spirit of our rec lists, let's put together a resource list of non-uni based jobs where a Gothic, arts or humanities PhD is still desired! Leave your suggestions below and share this post!
- Reposted by Laura KremmelIt is time to eradicate AI from all educational environments. Find another way. Maybe teach kids about AI like when we learned about drugs in middle school. “The risks of AI outweigh the benefits” - new report about AI in elementary schools.
- Reposted by Laura KremmelSaint Paul schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for optional online learning. I’ve seen schools close for snow, for pandemic, for natural disaster. I’ve never seen schools close because of threat from our own government.
- Reposted by Laura Kremmelhello friends & enemies of bsky. could use some extra freelance work if anybody has any good leads. any website or magazine writing, or perhaps developmental and copy editing. I'm experienced in both areas! hit me up. maxboothiii@gmail.com
- I'm constantly revising my list of reasons why we don't use AI in my class. This one is specific to a first-year writing intensive. Free to borrow/adapt! 🙂
- Every time I design a new course, I mourn the loss of all those great @britishlibrary.bsky.social teaching resources. You can see their reach-- lots of dead links on other blogs and projects.

- Reposted by Laura KremmelI had to send an email to my kid's teacher. Thankfully they weren't having the kids interact with it directly but I was still furious
- I ended up drafting an email that didn't really lean on research specific to grade school education, but expressed my concerns in the most basic terms. I removed the personal details and have shared it as a template here for folks who might find it useful: bit.ly/TeacherEmail...
- This is heartbreaking. I was a Sesame Street, Mister Rogers, Reading Rainbow kid. I can't imagine growing up without them.

- Reading day. Because it is cold and snowy and depressing, and I cannot cope with anymore news this weekend.
- Not for the first time, I'm thinking about how low we've sunk and how much we've lost in just a year's time. It's only been a year. 🤕
- New Year's resolution: say yes to some things instead of yes to all things. The coping mechanism of taking on too much to distract myself from political upheaval is not sustainable if this is going to last (and I am going to last). I am very proud of the work but very tired.

- The fact that @barnesandnoble.com only gives you 15 minutes to change or cancel a shipping address means that I will probably never order from them again. Totally unreasonable to deny cancellation if requested within 30 minutes. They'll sit on the order for a week before sending it anyway. Livid.
- @americanair.bsky.social are kicking 5 people off a flight in Philly because they overbooked the flight. They did NOT volunteer. Happy fucking holidays. And they waited until we were already late to do this. Shameful.
- Things that have been watched: A Muppet Christmas Carol, Gremlins, Christmas Eve on Sesame Street (failing to get my 3yo nephew interested in it), Muppet Family Christmas, and Diehard (the Kremmel tradition while decorating the tree). Some traditional gaps, but not too shabby for a chaotic year.
- Reposted by Laura KremmelThe actor Michael Sheen used all his money to start a fake debt collecting business, buy 900 people in Wales's debt, and excused it. If Musk bought ALL $194 billion in medical debt in the U.S. and excused it in the same way, he'd still be the world's riches man by hundreds of billions of dollars.

- Reposted by Laura KremmelI love companies being punished for replacing workers with AI. Gimme more
- Reposted by Laura KremmelI can't stop thinking about the purported drug smugglers being murdered by the US military. The punishment for drug offenses isn't the death penalty. This is just bloodlust and men in suits playing with lives they don't care about. It's truly grotesque and gravely compromises this country.

- I've finally seen Frankenstein and loved it as much as I hoped I would. I've heard Guillermo del Toro wax lyrical about the novel and believe he treats it and all its network of texts as sacred texts. And his movies are true tactile works of art.
