Lead-DBS
Open source toolbox to model deep brain stimulation electrodes in the human brain. www.lead-dbs.org - home at the @netstim.org
- From Adaptive DBS to Adaptive Circuit Targeting 👇👇
- In #DeepBrainStimulation the two major developments across the last decade have been 1. Adaptive DBS and 2. Connectomic DBS In a @natrevneurol.nature.com article with @julianneumann.bsky.social, we ask: Could the two be united into a common framework? www.nature.com/articles/s41... A 🧵
- How should we best model recruitment of axons by deep brain stimulation? Various concepts have been introduced and Konstantin Butenko just introduced a few more in a new publication at Brain Communications: academic.oup.com/braincomms/a...
- Should we use • Electric Field Magnitude • Electric Field projections onto fibers • Pathway Activation Modeling • probabilistic Pathway Activation Modeling?
- Unfortunately, there is no simple answer and as always, the method depends on the research question. However, these four methods have now all been included into Lead-DBS/OSS-DBS and can be conveniently analyzed on group level using the FiberFiltering Explorer (www.lead-dbs.org).
- First Fiber Filtering study using MRgFUS lesions (instead of DBS Stimulation Volumes)! 👇👇
- MR guided focused ultrasound surgery is an effective and uprising treatment option for Essential tremor. But where is the optimal site to sonicate? Which spots to avoid due to side-effects? @science.org @braincircuits.bsky.social @netstim.org – a thread🧵! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
- Lighting effects.. 🎉💥
- Lead-DBS v3.2 is out now – featuring Lead-Tutor, lots of code fixes and improvements, as well as some new atlases. Read all about it here: www.lead-dbs.org?na=view&id=31
- Ever wondered how well your Lead-DBS electrode localizations compare to expert solutions on the same data? Now, with Lead-Tutor, you can self-assess!
- Madan and Hart et al. introduce Lead-Tutor, an open-access educational resource that combines an imaging dataset of anonymized DBS cases with a software tool for self-teaching: doi.org/10.52294/001... @laurenahart.bsky.social @andreashorn.org @jordytasserie.bsky.social @ohbmofficial.bsky.social
- Want to learn Lead-DBS yourself? This is now possible thanks to a new dataset and tool extension created by Savir Madan & @laurenahart.bsky.social – out now in @apertureohbm.bsky.social 👇👇

- Great new & free resource to visualize UPDRS-iii items for papers, apps and more! 🙏🙏👏👏
- Excited to introduce our database of icons for MDS-UPDRS-III items in Parkinson’s disease! Available at osf.io/ybcah/ in various formats for easy edits. We hope these icons help enhancing science communication. Big thanks to @andreashorn.org, @lukasgoede.bsky.social and the patients for their input!
- First paper to ever use a 12-year-old feature of Lead-DBS which is to visualize graph networks, implemented still during the PhD of @andreashorn.org and pretty obscure in a tool called lead groupconnectome. Achtzehn et al. on STN-DBS ➔ Cognitive Control: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
- The Courtin lab is always pretty neat with illustrations and their grey & red signature figures. What would they do with electrode localizations done with Lead-DBS? See @natureportfolio.bsky.social Nature Medicine paper on hypothalamic DBS for spinal cord injury here: www.nature.com/articles/s41...
- Pretty cool feature – one can use custom domain names as handles here on @bsky.app Tag us at @lead-dbs.org from now on! bsky.social/about/blog/4...

- New, good things are coming!
- Lead-DBS is on @bsky.app! 👋
