- Reposted by Krystal TsosieWelcome to #ASHG25! As our President Sarah Tishkoff just noted, next year for the first time the ASHG exec cmte will be all women. Glad to have anyone and everyone participating in this society now and in the future.
- For those interested in #Indigenous #Genomics and #ASHG25 in Boston, here are some interested posters/talks/events coming out of the Tsosie Lab, @nativebio.bsky.social, and @d4itdr.bsky.social. For those looking for Friday plans, attend our Ancillary Event, debuting a #Tribal #data repository!
- INTERNATIONAL SURVEY ON TREE OF LIFE My PhD student Jocelyn Cheé-Santiago (Binnizá) is leading an online survey on scientific practices re: biodiversity, biocollections, conservation. If you work in these areas, we'd appreciate your insights. 10-15 mins. Details asu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

- In my Bio & Soc class, UGs act as reviewers/editors as a mock peer review. They see -difficulty finding responsive reviewers (& w/o COI) -variable quality reviews -issues matching reviewers to article Goal is to unveil realities of science evaluation (& hopefully train better reviewers). This helps

- This pretty much sums up a lot of my time on too many committees related to policy, ethics, equity, innovation, research, and healthcare in governmental and academic settings: #Indigenous #academia #policy
- #PhD students: pls don't make heavy asks of faculty time/expertise for your dissertation if you cannot include them on your committee. Use your existing committee, drop unhelpful members, or ask someone with service commitment (DGS). Heavy asks can be disproportionate to untenured faculty, esp. WOC.

- As a scientist, I appreciate the effort in signage/marketing. But I also wish the coffee shop was at Gate 27 instead. (Or even 58 for atomic weight, or 2 or 3 for valence…) At OKC airport.
- For those concerned about DNA ownership by corporations like 23andMe BUT do not understand impacts of funding cuts to the National Institutes of Health: Absent NIH funds, researchers will have to seek industry $$ to conduct research. Even more of your genomic data will be co-opted by corporations.
- I love my BIO498/598 Biological Data Policy, Ethics, and Governance students!! We just wrapped up some amazing discussions on ‘who should build data ethics frameworks’ and now intellectual property and law! With permission, here is one group’s renderings on ‘who should share in IP’?

- I am tired of settler-scientists only recognizing Indigenous science when they have something to gain (e.g. grant funding, access to Indigenous communities’ data, clout). This is not equity nor benefit sharing. This is straight up extraction, exploitation, and scientific colonialism.

- If you approach me at a conference, and your ONLY question after hearing me talk about Indigenous genomic data equity is still "how can I recruit Indigenous peoples into my study?", I am going to call you creepy and run away before you steal my DNA.
- Scientists: your supposed wokeness is performative if you do not realize your positionality. Just saw two non-Native researchers self-congratulate at length about the "success" of their outreach to Tribal peoples. Yet, Indigenous researchers familiar to the space are side-eyeing each other. Sigh.
