- When politics is seen in a moral light, it fundamentally changes the terms of the game: Moralization mobilizes, polarizes and radicalizes 💥 Yet, we have little empirical insight into political elites' longterm use of moral appeals. We analyze 60 y of political communication to deliver such evidence.
- Findings #1: Political communication has become more moralized over time! This trend is pretty consistent across the 10 countries in focus of our study, with an estimated av. increase of 15%-points over 60 y 😮:
-
View full threadWhat to make of this: The findings show that morality is a dynamic rhetorical tool rather than a fixed and stable property of political communication. With our longterm perspective, we can substantiate the extent to which contemporary politics has been moralized 🔥More details in the working paper!
