- “I would rather you vote for what is morally correct,” Davidson said. “Don’t talk to me about my own morality,” DeLauro shot back. “Don’t tell your constituents what they can and can’t talk to you about,” replied Rev. Nathan Empsall. “What you are voting for is not moral.”

- The best part of being a teacher is seeing what my students grew up to be. Well, I’ll be watching one of my former students this weekend — he grew up to be the starting center for the Seattle Seahawks. Go, Jalen!
- the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex
- It doesn't matter what the women said or did, how educated or successful they are, how faithful she is to her partner, anything. The Epstein files explicitly detail how these men (and their allies) emailed each other for advice and strategy on sex with girls and women, as well as helping each other.
- At the same time, the extent of the Washington Post layoffs highlight how it didn't matter how hardworking, loyal, smart, collaborative, award-winning, competitive, knowledgeable and devoted so many of the staff were. It wasn't enough to prevent being laid off by one of the richest men in the world.

- It's a moral injury, yes, just like people who help with executions. Turns out, concentration camps are bad for lots of people idk what else to say.

- 30 days from now just happens to be our primary election.
- Via @arkansasadvocate.com: Nearly 1,300 Arkansas voters who were also registered in Alabama or Tennessee were sent undated form letters from the state lacking official letterhead telling them they may be removed from voter rolls if they didn’t respond within 30 days. #arpx tinyurl.com/577eayyt
- Our founders, though deeply flawed, understood that democracy requires an informed citizenry and a government accountable to it people. That’s why the press is the only profession protected by the Constitution. It’s also why autocrats and oligarchs seek to control and destroy it.

View full threadPeople often disparage the press — and we often get it wrong — but almost everything you know about this administration is not because pundits go on tv or social media and pontificate but because of relentless reporting from real journalists at institutions that give them resources to do so.
- I fear, like our deeply wounded democracy, we will not understand what we’ve lost until it’s gone and it will be hard if not impossible to get it back. I am open to meeting with or convening with anyone trying to work to preserve the free press that we have.
- Lessons from other eroded democracies show there’re multiple ways to destroy the free press.Yes, you can arrest/intimidate journalists like last week. You can also buy news organizations, destroy their credibility and gut their newsrooms. You can sue frivolously until newsrooms can’t afford to fight.
- today's report: our "adopt a rent" venmo campaign paid 43 families rents who were at risk of evictions, including several moms of 4+ children this is the way to get rent paid fast. like. 1000x better than any other way.

- An infant in New Mexico has just died from listeria. Public health officials think it is because the mother drank raw milk during pregnancy. I can imagine this family’s pain. Please, please don’t drink raw milk. It is of no benefit whatsoever.

- I remember how stressed I was when I submitted my first paper revision (following peer review). It has gotten easier with repetition for sure. But also, I don't think I predicted that I'd one day be submitting revisions in-between checking the news for a state terror siege in my neighborhood.

- Why do I feel like shit all the time, all I do is: -read the news -get too stressed out to eat or sleep -try to force myself to do my job while constantly being paranoid

- NEW: This isn't about "training." The two agents who murdered Alex Pretti - Jesus Ochoa and Raymundo Gutierrez - have been with Border Patrol for 8 and 12 years respectively. You can't reform CBP. Abolish ICE/CBP. www.propublica.org/article/alex...
- Both highly trained, experienced agents. One a SWAT team member, just like Jonathon Ross, the agent who murdered Renee Good. This isn’t inexperienced agents, or agents gone rogue. This is people following orders, knowing that they will have top cover protecting them from prosecution.

- If you care about Don Lemon, don't forgot Mario Guevara (reporter who was filming police at a No Kings rally in June) was targeted for his journalistic activity; detained for 112 days; and deported. He had no criminal charges against him and was on the path to getting a green card.
- In the 1770s, Patriots used printing presses to organize a revolution. In the 1960s, civil rights leaders harnessed television to build support. Today, Minneapolis residents are using encrypted apps to monitor ICE. Up-to-date technology has always supercharged social movements.

- Okay, let's call them neo-Klansmen then.
- Is the comparison to Nazis apt? Yes, of course. But let's be honest and note that the reason so many reach for the history of WWII in Europe is that they can't stomach what was happening at home at the very same time. Because that's HOMEGROWN. Then you have to also acknowledge how we got here.
